Marana Arts Council 2004 In Review Dear Mayor, Council Members, and Staff: 2004 has been an exciting year with accomplishments such as completion of the Strategic Plan, recipient of three grants, the development and implementation of the Senior Volunteer Program, the completion of the first art enhanced water tank and more. The focus for 2005 are MAC's web site, membership, more and conveniently located art classes for adults and youth, fundraisers, and more open and frequent communication with the Town. MEMBERSHIP A new Membership Committee has been formed to address this area of concern. Committee Members: Debbie Ferns, Sally Jackson, and Meg Wallace. 2004 New Renewals Pending Total Membership 29 29 20 78 SPECIAL PROJECTS- Completed Strategic Plan 2004-2007 The committee worked on the plan for one year and was adopted on July 14, 2004 Grants Applied for five grants Awarded three totaling $8,600 Arizona Commission on the Arts 2004 Awarded: Consultant Services Grant General Operating Support Grant Art Education $1,400 $6,000 $1,200 Honeywell Grant- Applied in 2004 -Will know by February 2005 Parent & Youth - Art and Cultural Discovery United Way Grant - We were not successful this time, however, MAC will still follow through with the new Senior Volunteer Program. Marana Water Tank Enhancements MAC completed its first water tank in the Honea Height neighborhood, located on W. Sandy Street. Funding: The Town of Marana authorized MAC to commission the artist, and the Town committed to providing the paint and equipment needed to complete the project safely. MAC budget for the cost of the artist, Tony Cruz, was in the amount of $2,917.85. The design was that of Marana High School art students and teacher/artist Brian Jones. Volunteer Program The Marana Arts Council began its Senior Volunteer Program in late August. MAC has put together a training program for the volunteers that will educate them in the arts and more. Our vision is that these volunteers will be well informed about all of MAC's offerings, including special events, lectures, workshops, field trips, gallery exhibits, and the arts in general, basic history of Marana and its current leaders. · Developed and implemented a Senior Volunteer Program 12 members strong. · Developed Volunteer Handbook · Developed Volunteer Policies & Procedures Luninaria del Pueblo MAC is pleased to be selected by two corporations, Westward Look Resort and Gladden Farms, as the non-profit organization that will receive the proceeds from a gala auction in April 2005. Artist Calendar The Marana Arts Council authorized a committee to have a call to artists for the purpose of developing a calendar as a fundraiser to promote MAC and member artists. The calendar project served us well as marketing. Beginning in January 2005, the calendar, along with a welcome letter will be given to new home buyers in the Marana area. Pony Art Proiect Winners Winning artwork toured MUSD Elementary Schools and District Office. Adopt-A-School The Adopt-A-School program was created by MAC to encourage local businesses to partner with MUSD elementary schools by providing them with needed art supplies for the classrooms. MAC passed the baton on to each MUSD elementary school and their parent/Teacher groups PTF to continue the program. Art Training for Elementary School Teachers (2004) -Completed the fall training to all MUSD elementary school teachers. (K through 6th grade) Evaluation response: 45 responded with one teacher marking a score of 9 and 44 teachers giving a score of 10 with 10 being the highest score. Funding: Donations, grant, and MAC General Fund. COMMUNITY EVENTS March Founders' Day Decorated for the Mayor's Luncheon Small art show RAINED OUT July 4, 2004 4ta of July Decorated for the Mayor's Luncheon October 15, 2004 Art Exhibit and Wine & Cheese celebrating the official unveiling of the first edition of the Artist Calendar for 2005. The talented local artists were present to sign calendars. December 4, 2004 RAINED OUT Tree Lighting Booth Art for kids of all ages "make and take" designer cards MAC Information Collection jar for Miracle in Marana December 9, 2004 Holiday Party/Business Expo Marana Chamber and Marana Arts Council Joint Holiday Party Art Show/Calendar Signing Dinner/Silent Auction/Entertainment Stardance Center 5 to 9 pm December 12, 2004 Westward Look Resort Art Show/Artist Calendar Signing Luminaria "Sky Burst" Public Viewing Collection of toys and donations for Miracle in Marana DONATIONS Water Color Art Supplies Mr. William Boundey of Continental Ranch Kiln Donated by Roseanne Kovinat of Tucson Art Supplies Donated by MAC Board of Directors WEB PAGE Committees have been working on the web page and newsletter. Plans are to have the Web Site up and running by late January. Staffwill keep the site current. SPECIAL EVENTS (In the planning stages for 2005) ARTY-Q Barbeque for Families $5.00 per person; Youth art show, youth and adult entertainment, hands on art and more. Purpose: Fundraising event to help fund: 2 - Scholarships Support Art training for teachers Summer Art Camp for youth (appreciation for all the arts) MAC General Fund Riding the Trails for the Arts Focusing and western art and bring horsemen and artists together to benefit MAC and the arts. Purpose: Fundraising event to help fund: Art Classes MAC General Fund Art Gala (TBD) CLASSES Beginning Acting (12 Students) Beginning Pottery (8 Students) 2005 area of focus is to provide many more classes in convenient locations. AFFILIATIONS Executive Director Sandy Groseclose serves on the following committees and organizations: Arts Awards Planning Committee (County wide) Marana Police Explorers The Marana Arts Council's Board of Directors and I thank you for all that you have done for MAC over the past several years and we look forward to working with the Town in 2005.
