and adopting an 'affirmative Action Plan for Equal Employment Opportunities.
WHEREAS: The Civil Rights Acts of 1964, specifically Title VI, as amended
by the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972, makes it unlawful to deny equal
employment opportunity to any person on account of race, color, religion, sex
or national origin: and
WHF~EAS: The Arizona Civil Rights Acts also makes it an unlawful
discriminatory practi=e for an employer to refuse to hire or employ any person
or to bar or discharge from employment any individual on account of race, color,
religion, sex or national origin: and
?n~.REAS: It has long been the policy of the Town of Marana to provide
equal opportunity in its employment on the basis of merit and fitness and
without discrimination to any person on account of race, color, religion
sex or national origin:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF
MARANA, ARIZONA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the Town of Marana does hereby reaffirm its policy to
insure equal opportunity in employment for all persons and to prohibit
discrimination in ~ployment for all persons because of race, color, religion,
sex, age, physical handicap not related to job performance, or national origin,
and to promote the full realization of equal employment opportunity through a
continuing intensive Affirmative Action Program in each department of the Town
to be an integral part of every aspect of personal policy and practice in the
employment, development, advancement, and treatment of employees of the Town
of Marana to the maximum extent possible.
Section 2. That the Town of Marana, as evidence of its good faith and
intent to comply with basic policies and procedures necessary for effective,
uniform and judicious enforcement of Federal, State and local equal employment
laws, does hereby adopt an Affirmative Action Plan.
Section 3. WHEREAS: It is necessary for the preservation of the peace,
health and safety of' the Town of Marana that' this resolution become immediately
effective, and emergency is hereby declared to exit, and this resolution shall
be effective immed~ately upon its passage and adoption.
PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the Mayor and Con~mon Council of the
Towu of Marana, Arizona, the ,,12 , day. of June 1978
