HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 98-029 setting the speed limit on tangerine roadMARANA RESOLUTION NO. 98-29 A RES OLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, AUTHORIZING THE SETTING OF SPEED LIMITS ON THE RECENTLY IMPROVED TANGERINE ROAD BETWEEN I-10 AND THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD. WHEREAS, recent reconstruction and alignment of an approximate 1.75 mile length of Tangerine Road in between Union Pacific Railroad and 1-10 has replaced the current roadway with a new roadway which is considerably less curved than the former roadway; and WHEREAS, the decrease in the curvature of the roadway will allow for increased speed limits for east and westbound traffic, currently set at fifteen (15) and thirty- five (35) miles per hour, respectively; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to establish a safe speed limit for the new roadway which is in the best interests of the traveling public using such roadway; and WHEREAS, the new roadway was constructed in accordance with the design standards set forth in "A Policy on Geometric Design of Highway and Streets" by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and the proposed speed limits for the reconstructed roadway are in accordance with the standards set forth in this publication as determined by the Town Engineer. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Marana, Arizona, as follows: Section 1. The speed limit for eastbound traffic entering into the new curve alignment, approximately 200 feet east of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, shall be forty miles per hour (40 mph). Section 2. The speed limit for westbound traffic entering into the new curve alignment, approximately 400 feet east of the new curve alignment, shall be forty miles per hour (40 mph). Section 3. The new speed limits shall become effective upon the date of posting of the new regulatory speed limit signs.
