A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA
AUTHORIZING THE TOWN OF MARANA TO AMEND AN 1NTERGOVE~ENTAL
AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF TUCSON, PIMA COUNTY, CITY OF SOUTH TUCSON,
TOWN OF OR0 VALLEY, PIMA COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE, NORTHWEST FIRE
DISTRICT, GOLDER RANCH FIRE DEPARTMENT TO INCLUDE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT
OF PUBLIC SAFETY, ARIZONA BOARD OF REGENTS, AND THE TO~V'N OF SAHUARITA,
FOR THE USE OF THE MULTI-AGENCY MUTUAL AID SYSTEM.
WHEREAS, the Town of Marana recognizes its duty to protect its citizens through effective
police powers; and
WHEREAS, on September 2, 1997, Mayor and Council passed Resolution No. 97-85 which
approved an Intergovernmental Agreement ("IGA") between the City of Tucson ("City") and the
Town of Marana, Pima County, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Arizona Board of Regents,
City of South Tucson, Town of Oro Valley, Pima County Community College, Northwest Fire
District, and Golder Ranch Fire Department ("Agencies"); and
WHEREAS, the City has formed this Multi-Agency Mutual Aid System in order to be
collectively utilized by the respective police and emergency authority powers of the Agencies for
the provision of a regional radio communications system to allow direct communication between
and amongst the City and the Agencies during times of emergencies; and
WHEREAS, three (3) additional public safety agencies, the Arizona Department of Public
Safety, the Arizona Board o fRegents, and the Town o f Sahuarita, have since requested to participate
and the IGA has been amended to allow participation; and
WHEREAS, the Multi-Agency Mutual Aid System is an efficient, cost effective method of
providing for the enhanced safety of the citizens of the Town of Marana, and it has been determined
that it would be in the best interests of the citizens to enter into the IGA by and between the City and
the Agencies, attached hereto as Exhibit A, to allow the Marana Police Department direct access to
the Multi-Agency Mutual Aid System.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of
Marana, Arizona that the Mayor is authorized to execute the 1GA by and between the City and the
Agencies to allow the Marana Police Department direct access to the Multi-Agency Mutual Aid
System.
