A RESOLU2'ION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA
AUTHORIZING THE TOWN TO AMEND THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT
BETWEEN THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND THE TOWN OF
MARANA THROUGH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT PROVIDING FOR THE TOWN OF
MARANA'S CONTINUED PARTICIPATION 1N THE STATEWIDE GANG TASK FORCE.
WHEREAS, the Town of Marana recognizes its duty to protect its citizens through effective
police po;vets; and
WHEREAS, the Arizona Department of Public Safety has formed a Statewide Gang Task
Force for the purposes of organizing law enforcement agencies in the common goal of effectively
fighting illegal activity by gang members; and
WHEREAS, the Arizona Department of Public Safety shall reimburse the Town of Marana
for all employee expenses and provide vehicles and necessary equipment to the officers; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Marana originally entered into an Intergovermnental Agreement
for Mutual Aid in Law Enforcement Statewide Gang Task Force in 1994 and has renewed that
agreement every year since with the current Intergovernmental Agreement expiring June 30, 1999,
as more particularly described in Exhibit A, attached hereto and incorporated herein by this
reference; and
WHEREAS, the Arizona Department of Public Safety Gang Task Force Commander has
requested that the Marana Police Department increase its participation in the Statewide Gang Task
Force by adding a Police Sergeant position to the unit in addition to the two officers currently
assigned to the unit; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of the Town of Marana that the Town
renews the Intergovernmental Agreement allowing Marana to continue participation with the
Arizona Department of Public Safety and the other cooperating police agencies in fighting the gang
problem.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of
Marana, Arizona that the Mayor is authorized to amend the Intergovernmental Agreement for Mutual
Aid in Law Enforcement Statewide Gang Task Force, effective July 1, 1998 through June 30, 1999
by adding a Police Sergeant position to the Statewide Gang Task Force unit.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Town staff is authorized to create the position, and
budgetary capacity is acknowledged due to the fact that the position is to be funded through Gang
Task Force funding.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Marana, Arizona, this

Dear Chief Smith:
I understand that your agency is interested in providing a sergeant as a third officer to the State
Gang Task Force. With your concurrence, all terms and conditions of existing intergovernmental
agreement, D.P.S. Contract # 98-221, shall remain in effect with the exception that the number of
officers assigned to "G.I.T.E.M." will be increased from two officers to two officers and one
sergeant.
