HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 97.01 Amending the personnel policies MARANA ORDINANCE NO. 97.01 AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, AMENDING SECTION 01 OF THE MARANA PERSONNEL POLICIES BY ADDING SECTION 01.01 EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY POLICY OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, AND REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS, ORDINANCES, AND RULES OF THE TOWN OF MARANA IN CONFLICT THEREWITH. WHEREAS, the Town Council did, on the 19th day of December, 1989, adopt Marana Town Ordinance No. 89.32 revising the Marana Personnel Policies, and has amended the policies from time to time; and WHEREAS, it has been determined that the adoption of section 01.01, Equal Employment Opportunity Policy is in the best interests of the employees of the Town of Mar ana. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Marana, Arizona, as follows: Section 1. follows: That the Marana Personnel Policies are hereby amended by adding section 01.01 as EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY In order to provide equal employment and advancement opportunities to all individuals, employment decisions at the Town of Marana will be based on merit, qualifications and abilities. The Town of Marana does not discriminate in employment opportunities or practices on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or any other characteristic protected by law. The Town of Maran a will make reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with knowN disabilities unless doing so would result in an undue hardship. This policy governs all aspects of employment, including selection, job assignment, compensation, discipline, termination and access to benefits and training. In addition to a commitment to provide equal employment opportunities to all qualified individuals, the Town of Marana is committed to the principles of affirmative action to promote opportunities for individuals in certain protected classes such as minorities, women and Vietnam veterans throughout all levels of the organization. ,A'I....-., Any employees with questions or concerns about any type of discrimination in the workplace are encouraged to bring these issues to the attention of their immediate supervisor or the Human Resources Director. Employees can raise concerns and make reports without fear of reprisal. Anyone found to be engaging in any type of Marana, Arizona Ordinance 97.01 Page 1 of2 ~. <~.-' unlawful discrimination will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Section 2. The various town officers and employees are authorized and directed to perform all acts necessary or desirable to give effect to this ordinance. Section 3. All Marana ordinances, resolutions, or motions and parts of ordinances, resolutions, or motions of the council in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed, effective as of the effective date of this ordinance. Section 4. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion of this ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid or unconstitutional by the decision of any court of competent jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions thereof.
