MARANA ORDINANCE NO. 97.02
AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA,
AMENDING CHAPTER 16, SECTION 16-11-4 OF THE MARANA LAND USE AND
DEVELOPMENT CODE AMENDING THE REGULATIONS AND REPEALING ALL
RESOLUTIONS, ORDINANCES AND RULES OF THE TOWN OF MARANA IN CONFLICT
THEREWITH.
WHEREAS, the Town of Marana did adopt Chapter 16 of the Marana Land Use and
Development Code on March 5, 1996, which outlined regulations governing signs within the town
limits ofMarana; and
WHEREAS, the Marana Planning Commission considered the amendment to Chapter 16,
Section 16-11-4 oftheMaranaLand Use and Development Code on January 16, 1997, and voted 5-1
to recommend that the Town Council adopt the amendment; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council desire to amend Chapter 16, Section 16-11-4 of the
Marana Land Use and Development Code by amending the regulations governing election signs by
creating a blanket permit fee and limiting the days prior to and after an election in which the signs may
be erected within the town limits and have determined that the adoption of the amendment is in the
best interests of the citizens of the Town ofMarana.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Council of the Town ofMarana,
Arizona, that:
Section 1. Section 16-11-4 of the Marana Land Use and Development Code is amended, with
additions shown by CAPITAL LETTERS and deletions shown by stiil~ut, as follows:
Section 16-11-4 Political Sign
A. TEMPORARY ELECTION SIGNS, WIllCH SUPPORT CANDIDATES, ISSUES OR
ANY OTHER MEANS ON THE BALLOT OF PRIMARY, GENERAL OR SPECIAL
ELECTIONS ARE ALLOWED IN ALL ZONING DISTRICTS UPON THE
APPLICATION OF A BLANKET PERMIT WIllCH SHALL APPLY TO ANY
ELECTION SIGNS ERECTED WITHIN THE TOWN BOUNDARIES. The individual or
organization erecting the sign shall file with the Planning Director or their designee A SIGN
PERMIT APPLICATION PROVIDING the name, address and telephone number of the
individual responsible for the installation and removal of the signS AND THE LOCATION
OF SUCH SIGNS.
B.
THE SIGNS SHALL NOT BE LOCATED CLOSER THAN ONE HUNDRED (100) FEET
FROM AN INTERSECTION OF TWO ROADS, NO CLOSER THAN FIFTEEN (15)
FEET FROM THE EDGE OF PAVEMENT OF A PUBLIC OR PRIVATE STREET AND
SHALL BE LIMITED TO AN AREA THAT IS OUTSIDE THE SIGHT VISffiILITY

SUCH SIGNS SHALL NOT BE PLACED ON UTILITY POLES OR STRUCTURES OR
ANY AUTHORIZED TRAFFIC SIGN, SIGNAL OR DEVICE.
A BLANKET PERMIT FEE OF $25.00 IS REQUIRED FOR ELECTION SIGNS.
ANY AND ALL VIOLATIONS OF TIllS SECTION SHALL BE SUBJECT TO THE
PENALTY PROVISIONS CONTAINED IN SECTION 16-17 OF TIllS CHAPTER.
Section 2. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance
are hereby repealed, effective as of the effective date of this ordinance.
Section 3. Repeal of all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions set
forth herein does not affect rights and duties that have matured or penalties that were incurred and
proceedings that were begun before the effective date of that repeal.
Section 4. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion of this ordinance is for
any reason held to be invalid or unconstitutional by the decision of any court of competent
jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions thereof.

Section 16-11-4 ~l Signs
A.. Temporary ~ signs, which support candidates, issues or any other matter on the ballot
of primary, general or special elections are allowed in all zoning districts upon the
application of a blanket permit which shall apply to any p~ signs erected within the
Town boundaries. The individual or organization erecting the signs shall file \vith the
Planning Director or their designee a sign permit application providing the name, address
and telephone number of the individual responsible for the installation and removal of the
signs and the locations of such signs.
B. The signs shall not be located closer than one hundred (100) feet from an intersection of
two roads, no closer than fifteen (15) feet from the edge of pavement of a public or private
street and shall be limited to an area that is outside the sight visibility triangle of any roads
or drivewavs.

C. The signs shall not be installed more than thirty (~ days prior to the election in which the
candidates or issues are to be voted upon.

D. The signs shall be removed no more than five (5) days after the election.
E. The maximum square feet of each sign shall not exceed sixteen (16) square feet. .
F. The signs shall not be greater than ten (10) feet in height from grade.
G. The signs shall not be illuminated.
H. Such signs shall not be placed on utility poles or structures or any authorized traffic sign,
signal or device.
I. A blanket permit fee of $25.00 is required for political signs.
1.. Any and all violations of this section shall be subject to the penalty provisions contained in
Section 16-17 of this Chapter.
