HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 97.15 Amending personnel policies .- MARANA ORDINANCE NO. 97.15 AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, AMENDING THAT ARTICLE OF THE MARANA PERSONNEL POLICIES OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA ENTITLED "04 WORKING CONDITIONS" BY ADDING A SECTION ENTITLED "04.03 SMOKING," AND REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS, ORDINANCES, AND RULES OF THE TOWN OF MARANA IN CONFLICT THEREWITH. WHEREAS, the Town Council did, on the 19th day of December, 1989, adopt Marana Town Ordinance No. 89.32 revising the Marana Personnel Policies, and has amended the policies from time to time; and WHEREAS, it has been determined that the adoption of section 04.03 regarding smoking policies of Town employees is in the best interests of the employees of the Town of Mar ana. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Maran a, Arizona, as follows: Section 1. follows: That the Marana Personnel Policies are hereby amended by adding section 04.03 as ,~,~ ARTICLE 04. WORKING CONDITIONS 04.03 SMOKING IN KEEPING WITH THE TOWN OF MARANA'S INTENT TO PROVIDE A SAFE AND HEALTHFUL WORK ENVIRONMENT, SMOKING IS PROHIBITED THROUGHOUT THE TOWN'S BUILDINGS AND IMMEDIATE WORKPLACE AND IN TOWN VEHICLES. THIS POLICY APPLIES EQUALLY TO ALL EMPLOYEES AND VISITORS. EMPLOYEES WHO SMOKE CAN DO SO ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TOWN BUILDINGS IN THE PROPERLY DESIGNATED AREAS. SMOKING BREAKS SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE SAME NUMBER OF BREAKS THAT OTHER TOWN EMPLOYEES RECEIVE. THE IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR MAY LIMIT SUCH SMOKING BREAKS, PARTICULARLY IF THEY INTERFERE WITH WORK. Marana, Arizona Ordinance 97.15 Page 1 of2 EMPLOYEES WHO SMOKE BUT WHO ARE INTERESTED IN QUITTING SHOULD CONTACT THE HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR FOR INFORMATION ON POSSmLE COMMUNITY RESOURCES, LITERATURE OR SMOKING CESSATION PROGRAMS THAT MAY BE AVAILABLE. Section 2. The various town officers and employees are authorized and directed to perform all acts necessary or desirable to give effect to this ordinance. Section 3. All Marana ordinances, resolutions, or motions and parts of ordinances, resolutions, or motions of the council in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed, effective as of the effective date of this ordinance. Section 4.
