HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2002-047 application for historic preservation heritage funds for yuma wash hohokan village siteMARANA RESOLUTION NO. 2002-47 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA,: ARIZONA, AUTHORIZiNG THE OLD PUEBLO ARCHAEOLOGY CENTER, A NON- PROFIT ORGANIZATION, TO SUBMIT THE APPLICATION FOR HISTORJC PRESERVATION HERITAGE FUNDS FOR THE YUMA WASH HOHOKAM VILLAGE SITE AND THE BOJORQUEZ-AQUIRRE RANCH HISTORIC SITE LOCATED IN THE MARANA DISTRICT PARK. WHEREAS, the Legislature under A.R.S. {} 41-503 has authorized the establishment of the Historic Preservation Heritage Fund Program providing funds to the State of Arizona and other eligible applicants for the purpose of preserving historic and prehistoric resources; and WHEREAS, the Arizona State Parks Board "(BOARD)" is responsible for the administration of the program within the State, setting up necessary rules and procedures governing application under the program; and WHEREAS, said adopted procedures established by the BOARD require the applicant to certify by resolution the approval of applications, signature authorization,'the availability of local matching funds, and authorization to sign a Participant Agreement with the BOARD; and WHEREAS, Old Pueblo Archaeology Center is a non-profit organization which has been conducting archaeological research at two Marana cultural heritage sites: the Yuma Wash Hohokam village site and the Bojorquez-Aquirre Ranch historic site; and WHEREAS, Old Pueblo Archaeology Center has ent.ered into a seven (7) year heritage education program at the Marana District Park in partnership u)ith the Town; and WHEREAS, the Yuma Wash and Bojorquez-Aquirre Ranch sites are important cultural resources for furthering the understanding of the ancient Hohokam and other historic cultures which inhabited the Marana area; and WHEREAS, the Town will be making every effort to protect and enhance these sites; and WHEREAS, the heritage education program at the Marana District Park is consistent with the Arizona Historic Preservation Plan. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor m~d Council of the Town of Marana, Arizona, that the Town: 1. Authorizes Old Pueblo Archaeology Center, a non-profit organization, to act on the Town's behalf apply/ng for the Arizona State Park Historic Preservation Marana Resolution No. 2002-47 Page 1 of 2 Heritage Fund for a research and educational program for the Yuma Wash Hohokam Village site and the Bojorquez-Aquirre Ranch historic site located in the Marana District Park; and 2. Certifies that the Town of Marana will comply with all appropriate state and federal regulations, policies, guidelines, and requirements as they relate to the application; and 3. Agrees to comply with ail appropriate procedm'es, guidelines, and requirements established by the BOARD as a part of the application process; and 4. Certifies that the Town of Marana has matching funds in the amount of $395,184.00 from the following source(s): Marana District Park Capital Improvement Budget Fund; and 5. Appoints Farhad Moghimi, P.E., Director of Public Works/Town Engineer, as its agent authorized to conduct all negotiations, execute and submit ail documents including, but not limited to, applications, agreements, amendments, billing statements, etc., which are necessary for the completion of the aforementioned heritage education program at the Marana District Park.
