A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, EXEMPTING MOTOR VEHICLES ASSIGNED FOR USE BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT FROM TOWN MARKING REQUIREMENTS. WHEREAS, A.R.S. § 28-1441 requires motor vehicles owned or leased by a political subdivision of the state for a period of six (6) months or more to bear the designation of the name of the political subdivision and the department or agency thereof in a visible manner, and A.R.S. § 28- 1443(B) authorizes certain one-year exemptions fi.om said marking requirements to be made by the governing body ora political subdivision for vehicles to be used for the conduct of rehabilitation or social service programs, felony investigations, or activities ora confidential nature; and WHEREAS, application is hereby made with respect to the motor vehicles used for said purposes by the Marana Police Department for exemptions fi.om the provisions ofA.ILS. § 28-1441; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council find that it is in the best interests of the citizens of Marana to grant applications for the exemption fi'om marking requirements. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Marana, Arizona as follows: 1. Pursuant to A.R.S. § 28-1443(B), applications for exemptions fi.om official identification of motor vehicles now assigned for use by the Marana Police Department for use in the conduct of rehabilitation or social service programs, felony investigations, or activities ora confidential nature, hereby are approved. Since the identification of these vehicles is confidential, and such confidentiality is necessary for the public safety, a list of the veNcles contained under this exception are to be retained confidentially by the town clerk. 2. The effective date of the exemption of the aforementioned motor vehicles shall be June 1, 2001, and the period of such exemption shall expire on May 31, 2002. 3. The various Town officers and en-sployees are authorized and directed to perform all acts necessary or desirable to give effect this resolution.
