Mayor Honea asked everyone to stand and give the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mike Hein, City Manager, City of Tucson, said that as he took the position of Manager with the
City of Tucson, one of the first things he wanted to improve on was the relationship with Cities
and Towns in the Valley. He said as the burdens nationally were passed down to municipalities,
it was obvious that municipalities only had each other to maximize the public benefit. He had
made the office of intergovernmental affairs a direct report to the City Manager, and also created
the position of local intergovernmental affairs. He appeared this evening for that reason, as he
would with other units of local governmental. He introduced Malena Barajas, the local
intergovernmental affairs officer. Ms. Barajas would be at some Council meetings, and he hoped
that the Council and staff would use her as a contact with the City of Tucson.
III. GENERAL ORDER OF BUSINESS
A. COUNCIL ACTION
Mayor Honea announced that he would go down the list of the candidates alphabetically.
Each individual would be given two minutes to explain why they wanted to serve on the
Town Council, as well as some of their qualifications. He explained that after everyone had
addressed the Council, the Council would go into executive session and decide which
individuals to interview in executive session. After the executive session, the Council would
return to the dais and announce the selection.
