HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 99-021 display of MIA/POW flagMARANA RESOLUTION NO. 99-21 A RESOLUTION OF TIlE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOYVN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, APPROVING THE DISPLAY OF THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF FAMIIIES POW/MIA FLAG ON THE MARANA TOWN HALL FLAGPOLE ALONG WITH THE UNITED STATES FLAG. WHEREAS, the United States has fou~'ut in many wars, and thousands of Americans who served in those wars were captured by the enemy or listed as missing in action; and WHEREAS, many of these Americans are still missing and unaccounted for, and the uncertainty surrounding their fates has caused their families to suffer tragic and continuing hardships; and WHEREAS, as a symbol of the Town of Marana's concern and commitment to accounting as fully as possible for all Americans still prisoner, missing, or unaccounted for, Council shall officially recognize the National League of Families POW/MIA flag and seeks further to honor those Americans who in future wars may be captured, or listed as missing or unaccounted for. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the To~vn of Marana, Arizona, that the Town approves display of the National League of Families POW/MIA flag in a manner designed to ensure visibility to the public but not placed above or, if on the same level, to the rio~ht of the United States flag, and to be displayed on Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Veteran's Day, National POW/MIA Recognition Day and on the last business day before each of the preceding holidays and any other day as deemed appropriate from time to time. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the National League of Families PO~V/ML~. flag shall be displayed flying beneath the United States flag on the Marana Town Hall flagpole.
