A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA,
AUTHORIZING THE TEMPORARY REDUCTION OF THE SPEED LIMIT ON THORNYDALE
ROAD, SOUTH OF ORANGE GROVE ROAD, FROM 45 MPH TO 35 MPH.
WHEREAS, the recent annexation by the City of Tucson, south of Orange Grove Road on
Thornydale Road, includes a new subdivision, "Crossing at Riverbend,"in which its only access is
from Thornydale Road; and
WHEREAS, Thornydale Road, at the City of Tucson's jurisdictional boundary, had a speed
limit posting of forty-five (45) miles per hour, which was reduced to twenty-five (25) miles per hour,
by the City of Tucson; and
WHEREAS, Thornydale Road, at the Town of Marana's jurisdictional boundary, has a speed
limit posting of forty-five (45) miles per hour; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to A.R.S. § 28-703, the Town of Marana intends to assist the City of
Tucson by reducing the speeding limit from forty-five (45) miles per hour to thirty-five (35) miles
per hour to assure safe traveling from the City of Tucson to the Town of Marana; and
WHEREAS, the temporary speed limit will be in effect until Pima County completes
construction and realignment of a new roadway [Project No. 4TRCTT], which will connect
Thornydale Road, south of Orange Grove Road, to River Road; and
WHEREAS, upon completion of the Pima County project, which is anticipated to be in fiscal
year 2001, the speed limit of the realigned roadway will be forty-five (45) miles per hour in which
Thornydale Road, at the Town of Marana's jurisdictional boundary, will revert to forty-five (45)
miles per hour; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Town of Marana and the traveling public using
Thornydale Road to temporarily reduce the traveling speed from forty-five (45) miles per hour to
thirty-five (35) miles per hour, south of Orange Grove Road.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of
Marana, Arizona, as follows:
Section 1.
North and south bound traffic entering Thornydale Road, at the Town of Marana's
southern jurisdictional boundary, shall be thirty-five (35) miles per hour, up to
Orange Grove Road.
Section 2.
The temporary speed limit shall become effective upon the date of posting of the new
regulatory and warning speed limit signs.
Section 3.
The temporary speed limit of thirty-five (35) miles per hour shall revert to forty-five
(45) miles per hour upon completion of Pima County Project No. 4TRCTT, which
is the realignment of a roadway, connecting Thornydale Road, south of Orange
Grove Road to River Road.

day of July, 1999.
