A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA,
AUTHORIZING THE MARANA POLICE DEPARTMENT TO SUBMIT A REQUEST FOR
FUNDING TO THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF COMMUNITY AND HIGHWAY SAFETY OF
THE STATE OF ARIZONA FOR CONSIDERATION IN ITS 1998 HIGHWAY SAFETY PLAN.
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the Town of Marana that their Police Department
have the equipment necessary to enforce traffic and highway safety laws; and
WHEREAS, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Federal Highway
Administration, through the Governor's Office of Community and Highway Safety of the State of
Arizona, is seeking proposals from state and local jurisdictions for funding relating to all aspects of
highway safety; and
WHEREAS, the Marana Police Department has prepared a proposal for the purchase of
necessary traffic and highway safety equipment with grant award funds, including, but not limited
to, speed detection devices, child safety seats and child bike helmets; and
WHEREAS, the equipment proposed to be purchased with the grant awards funds would
assist the Marana Police Department in its commitment to deter traffic violators, reduce traffic
accidents, and further help to aid the Police Department in education of the public about traffic
laws and the consequences of driving impaired.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Marana
that the Marana Police Department is authorized to submit a request for grant funding to the
Governor's Office of Community and Highway Safety of the State of Arizona to be used to purchase
traffic and highway safety equipment.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief of Police of the Town of Marana be appointed
as agent for the Town of Marana, for the purpose of conducting all negotiations, executing and
submitting all documentation and any other necessary or desirable instruments in connection with
such grant funding.
