ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTEg Minutes of Regular Meeting - November 7, 2000 Upon motion by Council Member Honea, seconded by Council Member Blake, the minutes for November 7, 2000 were unanimously approved. CALL TO THE PUBLIC/ANNOUNCEMENT:; David Morales announced that St. Christopher's Catholic Church would be offering Thanksgiving dinners to needy residents. He also voiced his concerns regarding the Town Council vacancy left by Michael Reuwsaat's resi,,~,~ ....... ~--aL~Vll as vlce Mayor. STAFF REPORTS There were no questions regarding the staff reports. IX. GENERAL ORDER OF BUSINESS A. CONSENT AGENDA There were no consent agenda items. B. COUNCIL ACTION Status Report on Greater Tucson Economic Council (Mike Hein) Larry Aldridge, Chairman of the Greater Tucson Economic Council (GTEC), spoke at length about the organization. He thanked Marana for its leadership over the past years. Current and ongoing GTEC projects mentioned during Mr. Aldridge's presentation included a recent analysis of economic development in the Tucson metropolitan area, and a campaign focusing on business recruitment, existing-business expansion, and attracting new businesses through state level issues such as tax incentives. The pros and cons of supporting GTEC were also discussed. 2. _Resolution No. 2000-126: Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the City of Tucson (Tucson) and the Town of Marana (Marana) regarding Tucson Water Service Area Within the Marana Town boundaries (Mike Hein) Mr. Hein summarized this item and the turbulent history of water issues between Marana and Tucson. He recommended approval of the IGA and noted that this was a monumental step in the relationship between the two municipalities. Bill Schisler lauded the Town staff for this accomplishment. He stated that this agreement was a long time in coming and was a fair trade-off for both parties. Council Member Honea joined in the praise of the Town staff, particularly Brad DeSpain, and stated that this agreement was very important because it signaled an end to a longstanding and precarious relationship. Mayor Sutton added that he was very pleased with the improved relationship with Tucson as well as this partnership with Tucson Water. Council Member Ham commended the past leadership of Marana for acknowledging the importance of water in the destiny of their community. Council Member Kai suggested that the Town move forward regarding its troubled past with water problems and work toward continued improvement in its relations with Tucson on all matters. Upon motion by Council Member Honea, seconded Resolution No. 2000-126 was unanimously approved. C. Mayor and Council's Report by Council Member Harn, There were no reports. D. Manager's Report Mr. Hein requested that Brad DeSpain inform the Council regarding an upcoming joint meeting with Oro Valley concerning water issues. He reported that the Southern Arizona Regional Water Management Study (SARWMS) had recently released an informational study of alternative ways to use CAP water. He stated that Oro Valley had requested a joint meeting with the Marana Town Council, SARWMS members and the Councils and Boards of the Metro Water District and Flowing Wells Irrigation District in order to discuss this study. The meeting was scheduled for November 29, 2000, Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m. at the Oro Valley Town Hall. There was a short discussion of the availability of Council members for tl~s meeting because of the Thanksgiving holiday. XI. ADJOURNMENT Upon motion by Council Member Blake, seconded by Council Member Kai, adjournment was unanimously approved.
