PLACE AND DATE Heritage Highlands Country Club, May 25, 1999 CALL TO ORDER By Mayor Ora Mae Ham at 7:15 p.m. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Led by Mayor Ora Mae Ham INVOCATION Led by Captain Paul Ruehl, Salvation Army IV. The motion carried 7/0. VI. CALL TO THE PUBLIC/ANNOUNCEMENTS There were no announcements or speakers from the audience. MINUTES OF REG'ULAR COUNCIL MEETING MARANA TOWN COUNCIL MAY 25, 1999 VII. GENERAL ORDER OF BUSINESS A. Presentation to outgoing Council Member, Sherry Millner Mayor Ham presented Council Member Millner with a Marana Cotton Letter, acknowledging her dedication and commitment to the Town during her 4-year term of office. Mayor Harn also presented Council Member Millner with a basket of flowers. Town Clerk, Jocelyn Entz, asked all department heads present to come to the dais and a card and bouquet of flowers was presented to Council Member Millner as a tribute from the various departments on behalf of all Town employees. Council Member Millner addressed the audience with remarks regarding her tenure on the Council and expressed her appreciation to the Town employees. B. Presentations to Ora Mae Ham, 12th Mayor of Marana The Honorable Sharon Bronson, Chairman, Pima County Board of Supervisors, presented the Mayor with a framed written tribute, signed by herself, Supervisor Dan Ekstrom and Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry, the latter two sending their regrets at being unable to attend the ceremony. Kathy Chavez, on behalf of Pima County Wastewater and director, George Brinsko, presented Mayor Ham with a glass saguaro, commemorating her tenure as Mayor on the Council. Vice Mayor Bobby Sutton, Jr., presented Mayor Ham with the gavel used during her terms of office. On behalf of the Marana Town Council Council Members Ed Honea and Herb Kai presented a copper and verdigris water fountain to the Mayor, symbolizing the importance of water in establishing the Town and the Mayor's commitment to bank protection. C. Remarks by the Honorable Ora Mae Ham Mayor Harn then concluded the presentations with her remarks to the audience, specifically acknowledging Ron Tankersley, Betty Horrigan, Police Officers Keith Utter, Bill Derfus and Mark Bailor for their role in annexing the Ina/Thornydale area, which helped put Marana on its feet financially in the early 1990's. Mayor Harn recessed the meeting at 7:50 p.m. The Town Clerk, Jocelyn Entz, reconvened the meeting at 8:10 p.m., in order to continue the agenda. IX. ADMINISTRATION OF OATHS OF OFFICE BY JUDGE RUSSELL DILLOW Judge Dillow read the oaths of office to re-elected Council Member Honea and newly elected Council Member Blake. The Town Clerk presented each with a framed Certificate of Election, and they took their seats at the dais. Judge Dillow then read the oath of office to newly elected Mayor, Bobby Sutton, Jr., and the Clerk presented Mayor Sutton with his Certificate of Election and he took his seat at the dais. CALL TO ORDER Council Member Harn presented Mayor Sutton with a gavel, after which he called the meeting to order. ROLL CALL The Mayor asked the Clerk to call the roll. Seated at the dais were: Mayor Bobby Sutton, Jr. Council Member Jim Blake Council Member Ora Harn Council Member Ed Honea Council Member Herb Kal Council Member Mike Reuwsaat Council Member Roxanne Ziegler GENERAL ORDER OF BUSINESS A. Selection of the Vice Mayor Council Member Honea made a motion to approve Council Member Reuwsaat at Vice Mayor. Roxanne Ziegler seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously 7/0. B. Remarks by Bobby Sutton, Jr., first elected Mayor of Marana Mayor Sutton stated his vision for Marana as a good place to raise children, and especially thanked his supporters and outgoing Planning & Zoning Commission members, chairman Wheeler Abbett, Dorothy Sharnetsky and Al Taylor. ADJOURNMENT Council Member Honea made a mo~ion to adiourn, seconded by Council Member Zie§ler. The mo~ion was unanimously approved 7/0. Mayor Sutton adjourned the meeting at $:32 p.m. CERTIFICATION I hereby certify that the foregoing minutes are the true and correct minutes of the Marana Town Council Special Session held on May 25, 1999. I further certify that a quorum was present.
