A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF
MARANA, ARIZONA, ACCEPTING AND AUTHORIZING AN
INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE TOWN OF
MARANA AND PIMA COUNTY FOR THE PURPOSE OF FACILITATING
COOPERATION IN THE PLANNING, DESIGN, AND IMPLEMENTATION OF
THE SANTA CRUZ RIVER PARK, THE DE ANZA NATIONAL HISTORIC
TRAIL, THE CENTRAL ARIZONA PROJECT TRAIL, AND OTHER TRAILS
AND TRAILS-RELATED FACILITIES DETERMINED TO BE DESIRABLE BY
BOTH JURISDICATIONS.
WHEREAS, the Town of Marana and Pima County have a strong mutual
interest in the establishment of trails and trails-related facilities in their
jurisdictions that will provide recreational, health, fitness and alternate modes of
transportation opportunities and benefits to their citizens, and
WHEREAS, the Town of Marana and Pima County have adopted the
Eastern Pima County Trail System Master Plan and fully support the
development of an interconnected trail system in their jurisdictions, and;
WHEREAS, the Town and the County are presently planning the
development of the Santa Cruz River Park, the de Anza National Historic Trail,
the Central Arizona Project Trail and other trails and traiis-related facilities
determined to be desirable by both jurisdictions, and;
WHEREAS, the Town as committed funding to the development of the
Santa Cruz River Park and is actively seeking matching grant funding for the
Santa Cruz River Park and other trail projects. The County has access to voter-
approved funding through the May, 1997 Bond Program for trails and parks
projects, including the Santa Cruz River Park, the de Anza National Historic
Trail and the Central Arizona Project Trail, and;
WHEREAS, the Town and the County have staff and other agency
resources to apply to the planning, design and implementation of the Santa Cruz
River Park, the de Anza National Historic Trail and the Central Arizona Project
Trail, and other trails and trails-related projects, and;

WHEREAS, the Town and the County have established productive
partnerships with other agencies capable of assisting with the development of
the Santa Cruz River Park, the de Anza National Historic Trail, the Central
Arizona Project Trail and the other trails and trails-related projects, such as the
U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the National Park Service, which have funding
and staff expertise to contribute to the planning and implementation of these
projects, and;
WHEREAS, the Town and the County, through ARS 8 11'952, have the
authority to enter into an agreement to facilitate the development of the Santa
Cruz River Park, the de Anza National Historic Trail, the Central Arizona Project
Trail, and other trails and trails-related project.
BE 1T FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor is authorized to execute said
Intergovernmental Agreement on behalf of the Town of Marana.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of
Marana, Arizona, this 17a~ day of July, 2001.
