RELATING TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT; APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING
SUBMISSION OF AN APPLICATION FOR FUNDING UNDER THE TRANSPORTATION
INVESTMENT GENERATING ECONOMIC RECOVERY
WHEREAS, the Recovery Act was. signed into law by President Obama on February 17,
.2009. and allocates up to $1.5 billon to the United Stated Department of Transportation (DOT) to
make grants on a competitive basis for capital investments in surface transportation infrastructure
projects that will have a significant impact on the Nation, a metropolitan area, or a region; and
WHEREAS, DOT has developed the Transportation Investment Generating Economic
Recovery (TIGER) grant program to distribute these funds; and
WHEREAS, projects eligible for funding provided under this program include, but are
not limited to, highway or bridge projects, public transportation projects, passenger and freight
rail transportation projects, and port infrastructure investments; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Marana has been working with the Arizona Department of
Transportation, and both private and public partners to design and develop the Tangerine Traffic
Interchange; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Marana feel, that the Tangerine Traffic Interchange meets the
funding criteria set forth under the TIGER program and wishes to submit and application for
funding.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, that the Town Manager is authorized to submit the grant
application to the Department of Transportation under the TIGER program.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF
MARANA, ARIZONA, this 18th day of August, 2009.
