HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/21/2006 Take Action Proclamation PROCLAMA liON WHEREAS, the Marana Town Council and staff are strongly committed to a safe, healthy and drug-free community; and WHEREAS, awareness, education and community involvement are the first steps to promoting healthy choices among Marana youth; and WHEREAS, the Marana Unified School District and the Arizona Youth Partnership have been active and vital community partners and regional leaders in youth education and development; and WHEREAS, Mountain View High School and Tortolita Middle School, both "A+" Arizona Educational Foundation schools, have taken a proactive role in addressing the larger problem of substance abuse, which especially affects the youth of the community, through a program of awareness; and WHEREAS, this effort has brought together organizations from across the region, including the Pima County Sheriff's School Resource Unit, Arizona Air National Guard's Drug Demand Reduction Team, the Counter Narcotic Alliance, the PAXIS Institute, and the Coalition for Drugs/AlcoholNiolence Awareness. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of Marana, Arizona, do hereby recognize Mountain View High School, Tortolita Middle School and the Coalition for Drugs/AlcoholNiolence Awareness for their work in hosting the TAKE ACTION! AN EVENING OF SUBSTANCE AWARENESS EDUCATION on February 15, 2006, which gives students, educators, administrators and community members the opportunity to learn about this danger to the community and how to address it.
