TOWN COUNCIL
MEETING
INFORMATION
TOWN OF MARANA
MEETING DATE: June 6, 2006
AGENDA ITEM: J. 2
TO: MAYOR AND COUNCIL
FROM: Frank Cassidy, Town Attorney
SUBJECT: Ordinance No. 2006.13: Relating to the Privilege License Tax;
amending the Town Tax Code by repealing Marana Ordinance
No. 2004.16 and thereby decreasing the tax rate on certain activi-
ties by one-half cent; and declaring an emergency.
DISCUSSION
This proposed ordinance would eliminate the Town's half-cent sales tax for regional roadway
improvements, as established by Marana Ordinance No. 2004.16. When this half-cent sales tax
was adopted by the Town Council, it was intended to be repealed when the Regional Transporta-
tion Authority half-cent sales tax went into effect. Now that the voters have approved the re-
gional transportation authority half-cent sales tax, this ordinance is being brought forward to
Council so that the Town's separate half-cent regional transportation sales tax may now be re-
pealed.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends adoption of Ordinance No. 2006.13, repealing the Town of Marana half-cent
sales tax for regional transportation improvements.
SUGGESTED MOTION
I move to adopt Ordinance No. 2006.13.
