SUBJECT: Resolution No. 2005-120: Relating to Hurricane Katrina; approv-
ing and authorizing the Town Manager to direct staff to establish a
relief effort consisting of financial donations to a special account
for victims of Hurricane Katrina and authorizing a general fund
contribution of $10,000.
DISCUSSION
It is appropriate to acknowledge the recent disaster in the City of New Orleans, Louisiana and
other gulf cities caused by Hurricane Katrina. Having experienced the catastrophic effects of
flooding and the aftermath of a natural disaster in both 1983 and 1993, the Town of Maran a was
the beneficiary of public support and caring during its recovery process.
The Town Council wishes to express its empathy for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and invites
citizens of the community to do the same through monetary donations toward the relief effort.
At tonight's meeting, citizens will be advised of the appropriate manner and location for dona-
tions.

RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends establishing a relief effort consisting of financial donations to a special ac-
count for victims of Hurricane Katrina and authorizing a general fund contribution in the amount
of$10,000.
SUGGESTED MOTION
I move to adopt Resolution No. 2005-120.
RESOLUTION NO. 2005-120
RELATING TO HURRICANE KATRINA; APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING
THE TOWN MANAGER TO DIRECf STAFF TO ESTABLISH A RELIEF
EFFORT CONSISTING OF FINANCIAL DONATIONS TO A SPECIAL
ACCOUNT FOR VICfIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA AND AUTHORIZING
A GENERAL FUND CONTRIBUTION OF $10,000.
WHEREAS, the citizens of the Town of Marana have been deeply affected
by the death and destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Marana was the beneficiary of public and private
support in the aftermath of the floods of 1983 and 1993; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Marana wishes to express its empathy for the
victims of Hurricane Katrina and is committed to supporting the coordinated
efforts of all agencies involved in the timely identification of victims and in the
recovery efforts to provide shelter, food, blood, and other resources; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Marana invites citizens to make financial
donations to the relief effort through an account established by the Town for that
purpose; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Marana desires to make a general fund
contribution of $10,000 to this relief effort
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of
the Town of Marana encourage all town residents to make financial contributions
to an established relief effort account for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town of Marana is authorized to
make a general fund contribution to this relief effort account in the amount of
$10,000.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of
Marana, Arizona, this 6th day of September, 2005.
