A. 1 TO: MAYOR AND COUNCIL FROM: Richard Vidaurri, Chief of Police SUBJECT: Resolution No. 2005-69: Relating to the Police Department; authorizing application for undercover vehicle registrations DISCUSSION The Town of Marana owns 12 vehicles assigned to the Police Department that require undercover license plates. Renewal of undercover plates is an annual requirement ofthe Arizona Department of 'I' ran sport at ion. There is no cost to the Town for licensing these undercover plates. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends renewal of the undercover license plates for the designated police vehicles. SUGGESTED MOTION I move to approve Resolution No. 2005-69. MARANA RESOLUTION NO. 2005-69 RELA TlNU TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT; AUTHORIZING APPI JCA TION FOR UNDERCOVER VEHICLE REGISTRA nONS. WHEREAS, A.R.S. 28-25 I I requires motor vehicles owned or leased by a political subdivision oflhe state to bear the designation of the name of the political subdivision and the department or agency thereof in a visible manner, and A.R.S. 28- 25 I I (B) and (C) authorizes certain one-year exemptions from said marking requirements to be made by the govcming body of a political subdivision for vehicles to be used for the conduct of rehabilitation or social service programs, felony investigations, or activities of a confidential nature; and WHEREAS, application is hereby madc with respect to the motor vehicles used for said purposes by thc Marana Police Department for exemptions from the provisions of A.R.S. 28-2511; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council find that it is in the best interests of the citizens of Marana to grant applications for the exemption from marking requirements. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Marana, Pima County, Arizona, as follows: I. Pursuant to A.R.S. 28-251 I(B) and (C), applications for exemptions from official identification of motor vehicles now assigned for use by the Marana Policc Department for use in the conduct of rehabilitation or social service programs, felony investigations, or acti vities of a confidential nature, hereby are approved. Since the identification of these vehicles is confidential, and such confidentiality is necessary for the public safety, a list of the vehicles contained undcr this exception is to be retained confidcntially by the ToWll Clerk. 2. The effective date of the exemption of the aforementioned motor vehicles shall be from July 1,2005 to June 30,2006. 3.
