HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/01/2006 City of Tucson Birthday Proclamation PROClAMA" N WHEREAS, the City of Tucson commemorates this as the 231 st year since the community's founding on August 20, 1775 when Spanish Comandante Lt. Col. Hugo O'Conor established EI Presidio San Agustin del Tucson in what is now downtown Tucson; and WHEREAS, Tucson has thrived over the years despite the hardships of the natural environment, attracting resources and development to the greater Tucson Valley that have benefited all of northern Pima County; and WHEREAS, much of Tucson's vibrant heritage reverberates throughout Marana as well as the communities share many cultural roots, from the earliest Hohokam settlers along the Santa Cruz River to the waves of immigrants that came to mine, ranch and farm the land; and WHEREAS, the Town of Marana and the City of Tucson have enjoyed a strong relationship over the years as both communities work to improve the quality of life for citizens throughout the region; and WHEREAS, the partnership between Marana and Tucson will continue to grow as we come together to address the challenges of the region-be they in transportation planning, resource allocation or economic development-and forge lasting solutions that benefit Tucson and Marana residents alike. NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Mayor and Council of the Town of Marana, do hereby commemorate and recognize the day of August 20,2006 as the birthday of Marana's neighbor and partner: THE CITY OF TUCSON ~~ Ed Honea, M-ayor of Marana Dated this 1st day of August, 2006. - ATTEST:
