Subject: Presentation: Relating to Planning; presentation to the Town Council and Planning
Commission on the status of the 2010 General Plan
Discussion:
Town staff has been performing public outreach for the 2010 General Plan during the 60-day
public review period. Staff has been collecting all of the public comments being provided and
continues to do appropriate editing to all of the draft elements.
This presentation will familiarize the Town Council and Planning Commission with the 2010
General Plan's intent and objectives and describe how the General Plan format has evolved into a
document that will provide Marana with a renewed focus, thinking and direction. In addition, we
will also discuss the next steps involved in the process.
A general plan is a statement of a community's vision for growth and development. It provides
guidance and direction on long-range development decisions through a series of goals, policies
and related maps. The policies and strategies developed under these elements are required to
be designed to have community-wide applicability. The legislative body of
each municipality adopts the general plan and then the electorate ratifies it through an election.
