HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2006-139 amending july 31, 2006 proclamation declaring the existence of a flooding emergency MARANA RESOLUTION NO. 2006-139 RELATING TO MAYOR AND COUNCIL; AMENDING THE MAYOR'S JULY 31,2006, PROCLAMATION DECLARING THE EXISTENCE OF A FLOODING EMERGENCY WITHIN THE TOWN LIMITS OF MARANA, PIMA COUNTY; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, due to the heavy rains across southern Arizona, which included the Town of Marana, Pima County, beginning July 26, 2006, and continuing through August 4, 2006; and WHEREAS, the Town of Marana experienced severe flooding, loss of property, and damage to infrastructure; and WHEREAS, these conditions created a situation of extreme peril to the health and safety of the citizens of the Town of Marana, Pima County; and WHEREAS, a proclamation of the Mayor of the Town of Marana declaring the existence of a flooding emergency within the Town limits of Marana, Pima County, was issued by Mayor Ed Honea on July 31, 2006; and WHEREAS, the emergency condition identified in the Mayor's July 31, 2006 proclamation continued after the date of the proclamation; and WHEREAS, the Governor of Arizona, Janet Napolitano, issued a "Declaration of Emergency - Summer 2006 Monsoons and Flooding" on August 8, 2006, declaring a state of emergency in Pinal and Pima counties effective July 26, 2006 through August 4, 2006; and WHEREAS, the Council desires to modify the Mayor's July 31, 2006 emergency proclamation to conform to the dates within which the Town of Marana experienced an emergency and to conform to the Governor's declaration, thereby enabling the Town to receive any and all available aid. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, that the Mayor's July 31, 2006 proclamation declaring the existence of a flooding emergency within the Town limits of Marana, Pima County, is hereby amended to reflect that the emergency was effective July 26, 2006, through August 4, 2006. {00002583.DOC /} FJC/cds 8/29/06 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT since it is necessary for the preservation of the peace, health and safety of the Town of Marana that this resolution become immediately effective, an emergency is hereby declared to exist, and this resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage and adoption.
