Commerce i Recreation People and Communi ty' Criminal Justice /Marana Police Department Project Name: Uniform Crime Reporting Changes Project Status /Details: • The Police Department has been incorrectly classifying some property crime incidents (car busts, vandalisms, minor thefts etc.) as "suspicious activity" calls. This was occurring in cases in which a victim could not be located or the victim did not want to prosecute. This practice is not consistent with the reporting criteria guidelines provided by the FBI Uniform Crime Re- porting (UCR) protocols. By all accounts this has been occurring for many years because of an incorrect interpretation of the UCR protocols that has been passed down over time, which in turn has resulted in the improper /incorrect training of our personnel. • In correcting this issue the Town of Marana is likely to see a "statistical" increase in property crimes incidents and a commensurate decrease in suspicious activity incidents. • It is important to keep in mind that any increase that coincides with a subsequent decrease in suspicious activity incidents is likely attributable to the UCR reporting error, and any increase above that would likely be an indication of an actual increase in property crime incidents. (For example, if we see an increase in property crime of 7% and a decrease in Suspicious Activity of only 5 %, we may conclude that we realized an actual increase in property crime of only 2 %. We won't be able to say for certain but we can use those two numbers as a gauge). Project Name: MPD substation Project Status /Details: • Efforts are underway to look for avenues to improve the current substation facilities or look at other buildings to meet the needs of the department. Project Name: Accenture Match Play Project Status /Details: • The last planning meeting was conducted on January 19th with the group that included the PGA Tour, Accenture, Ritz - Carlton, Town of Marana, the Marana Police Department, ADOT, Northwest Fire Dept, Southwest Ambulance, Pima County Regional SWAT Team, and the FBI. • Smaller group meetings and discussions are still occurring to finalize specific details for the event. • According to the PGA Tour and Accenture, corporate tent and ticket sales are up this year. Commerce - Community Building - Recreation - Progress and Innovation - Heritage People ity • The parking lot across from Trico Electric has been completed. This parking lot will not be used for Monday or Tuesday. • General Parking for Monday and Tuesday will be at Tangerine Road and Dove Mt. Boule- vard across from shopping center. • Assistance from FBI and ATF has been requested to assist with security during the week. • Pima County Emergency Ordinance Disposal unit (with bomb dogs) will be assisting again this year for sweeps of all facilities before each day begins. • Lt. Bradshaw has been speaking with AZ Game & Fish to ensure access into AZ State Trust Land and the Tortolita Preserve is limited during the event. Community Health and Wellness Project Name: Founder's Day Project Status /Details: • The event will be held October 27 -30 • The Town is partnering with many community groups, including the Marana Heritage Con- servancy, the Gladden Farms HOA and the Western Heritage Committee. Recreation Support Services Project Name: Server Room Project Project Status/Details: • Server room upgrades are scheduled over two weekends during March. The two scheduled maintenance outages will occur on Saturday, March 5, and Saturday, March 12. • The upgrades will include: • Addition of a battery rack to extend battery run time from approximately 25 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. Additional time is necessary to ensure that on call staff has sufficient time to arrive and safely shutdown server room equipment in the event of power, generator, or switch -gear equipment failure. • Addition of a redundant cooling system using chilled water cooling and modification of air flow. The current AC system is 5 years old and has had several hard failures that have im- pacted server room operations. Additionally, the new system is energy efficient and will provide significant savings over its lifetime. In order to accomplish this, server racks will be moved and rotated, and cooling devices will be placed in the middle of each row of racks. Additionally, chilled water plumbing will be installed as will panels between racks to con- trol air flow. • Fiber optic cable fixes - during the upgrade process, fiber cable problems that have been identified will be corrected. • Facilities electrical repair and preventative maintenance • On March 5, servers and the phone system will be shutdown for approximately b hours during the move. 911 calls will not be affected, and non - emergency PD calls will be for- warded using a service from Qwest. On March 12, the network will be shutdown for ap- proximately 2 hours in the morning. 91 1 Service will remain online, but town servers will be offline throughout the day.
