Conversely, 1,000 parcels are affected by the new 2011 FIRM. • Targeted outreach letters describing a person's floodplain status before and after the new maps and giving one of nine specific recommendations based on their situation went out to citizens March 18, 2011. Letters to businesses and large land developers went out the following weeks. • 148 people received a letter stating that their situation is improved (removed from floodplain or into a less hazardous floodplain) • 459 people received a letter stating that their situation is worse (going into the flood- plain or into a more hazardous floodplain) • 197 people received a letter stating that the floodplain limits are changing on their property (but generally the same floodplain) • 9,000 people did not need to receive a letter because of the efforts from the Town of Marana. • To date, there have been about 30 calls from citizens who received letters, which is less than was anticipated. • A public open house is scheduled for May 5 from 4 p.m. -7 p.m. at Estes Elementary for any residents that would like additional information on their flood plain status. Transportation Project Name: Cortaro /Silverbell Intersection Improvements Project Status /Details: • Southern Arizona Paving was awarded the contract. • This project will include, relocation of a portion of curb, gutter and sidewalk, including handicap ramps and a catch basin, adjust one (1) sanitary sewer manhole rim and cover, relocate an existing street light and rework landscaping and irrigation on the north side of Cortaro Road. For the entire project length, on the north side of Cortaro Road and a portion of Silverbell Road, they will chip seal, re- stripe, and re -sign. • The estimated time for completion is 60 days and construction is anticipated to begin the week of April 11. ® 'i ® . i i Community Health and Wellness Project Name: Take Back Drug Day Project Status • Marana Police Department, along with community partners, will hold a Take Back Drug Day on April 30, from 1 Oa.m. -2p.m. at the Target Store at Ina Road and Thornydale Road. • Citizens can bring any unused, expired, or unwanted prescriptions and over the counter medications to be disposed of in a safe and environmentally friendly way. Project Name: Marana Regional Airport Updates Project Status • The Ritz Carlton is hosting a special event for the Lexus Group May 18 Approximately 300 people are expected to arrive via private and charter jets at the Marana Regional Air- port which will increase air traffic and landings at the end of May. • The Marana Regional Airport has seen increased traffic due to special events taking place at both the Ritz Carlton and Miraval Resort. Global Express and Bombardier XRS custom built jets have been landing and fueling more frequently at the airport due to these events. • Also at the airport this month, the AZ State Forestry Fire Fighters will be stationed on sight for the duration of the fire season. GLOBAL EXPRESS (G5) JET Commerce Community Building - Recreation t �G t t� Pro Peqpi�'' and ommunity Community Health and Wellness Project Name: Sun Shuttle Services Project Status/Details: • Regionally, Sun Shuttle ridership has increased at a comfortable rate of 36% over the last year. Marana ridership continues to set new records. In March services were provided to 5,272 individuals, a 57% increase over the March 2010 ridership record of 3,355. Overall for the first quarter of 2011 ridership totals are up 66% over the same time period in 2010. Rate increases effective July 1, 2011 will impact levels of service at different rates and will be in effect for services provided by Sun Tran within the Town including Sun Tran Route 16 and Sun Express Routes 101 x, 102x, 103x, 104x and 202x. • Tucson Council action does not increase Sun Shuttle rates, however the RTA Board has the option of implementing a similar increase as part of the ongoing efforts to coordinate ser- vice schedules, rates, safety, planning, and marketing throughout the region. It contains a summarized break down of the Town's revenues and expenditures. Manager's Corner Project Name: Deputy Town Manager Project Status - /Details: • The Manager's Office is pleased to announce the appointment of Del Post as the new Dep- uty Town Manager. A nation -wide search conducted by Waters - Oldani Executive Recruit- ment solicited over 200 applications. Through a rigorous and thorough selection process, a group of five finalists were identified. The five finalists were asked to participate in a se- ries of exercises with departmental leadership, the executive management team, and Council. In addition to being able to demonstrate the requisite skills and capabilities, the top candidate had to share in the vision of the Town and add value as a key part of the Marana team. Mr. Post joins the Marana team after having served as an attorney in Mon- tana practicing civil litigation. He is expected to start no later than May 12, 2011. L and Mana F Land Use Project Name: CUP - 11018: Progressive Herbal Care Conditional Use Permit for a Medical Marijuana Dispensary with on -site cultivation Project StatusZDetails: • An application was received and processed on April 4, 2011 for the Town's first medical marijuana dispensary. • The facility is proposed to be located within the Orange Grove I -10 Plaza on Lot 15 which is south of National RV Central. • The applicant, if chosen for a dispensary site, would be required to process all required plans to construct a new building. • A public hearing with the Marana Planning Commission has been scheduled and adver- tised for April 27, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Marana Council Chambers.
