RELATING TO PERSONNEL; APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING STAFF TO
IMPLEMENT A ONE -TIME LUMP SUM EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION PAY INCREASE
FOR FISCAL YEAR 2011 -2012
WHEREAS the Town Council is authorized by A.R.S. § 9 -240 (A) to control the finances
of the Town; and
WHEREAS due to budgetary constraints, the Town of Marana has been unable to provide
annual pay increases to its employees for the last three fiscal years; and
WHEREAS the Town has the budget capacity and authority to grant a one -time lump sum
employee appreciation pay increase for fiscal year 2011 -2012; and
WHEREAS Town of Marana employees are positive and professional and strive to
provide the best public service to the Town and its citizens; and
WHEREAS the Town of Marana is committed to expressing its support and appreciation
of its employees; and
WHEREAS the Town Council finds that authorizing staff to implement a one -time lump
sum employee appreciation pay increase for fiscal year 2011 -2012 is in the best interests of the
Town and its residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Town Council of the Town of Marana hereby approves a one -time
lump sum employee appreciation pay increase for fiscal year 2011 -2012, as described in Exhibit
A, attached to and incorporated by this reference in this resolution.
SECTION 2. The Town's Manager and staff are hereby directed and authorized to
undertake all other and further tasks required or beneficial to carry out the terms, obligations, and
objectives of the one -time lump sum employee appreciation pay increase.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF
MARANA, ARIZONA, this 15 day of November, 2011.

Employee Appreciation Lump Sum Increase
December 2011
The Town of Marana has not been positioned to grant annual merit -based pay increases
over the last three fiscal years, including the current fiscal year of July 1, 2011 through
June 30, 2012. Since that time, living expenses, health insurance premiums and pension
contributions have increased, leaving employees with less disposable income. In
recognition of work contributions employees continue to make to the Town, a one -time
lump sum pay increase is being granted to eligible employees for fiscal year 2011 -2012
as follows:
Eligibility
1. Regular full -time and part-time classified and unclassified employees hired on or
before June 30, 2011 are eligible to receive a pay increase.
2. Employees hired on or after July 1, 2011 are not eligible to receive this pay increase.
3. Temporary employees and the Town Manager are not eligible to receive this pay
increase
Compensation Distribution
1. Eligible full -time employees will be paid the following amounts under the
following parameters:
a. If hired as a regular classified or unclassified employee on or before
June 30, 2010, employee will receive $450.00.
b. If hired as a regular classified or unclassified employee during the time
period of July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011, employee will receive $300.00.
2. Eligible part-time employees will be paid under the same time period parameters
as full -time employees, but the pay amount will be prorated based on the employee's
regular weekly work hours as of June 30, 2011.
Pay Administration
1. Separate live checks will be issued to eligible employees on December 9, 2011.
2. Compensation will be subject to normal payroll taxes.
3. Compensation will not be subject to other payroll deductions such as health insurance
premiums.
4. Compensation will be subject to pension contributions as provided by state law.
5. Federal and State withholding will be calculated based on the current exemptions on
file.
