The information in this re- port is what was collected from May-September. Commerce 7 8 Land Management Project name: VA Cemetery Project Status/Details: The Town of Marana has been identified as the ideal location for a new Veterans Cemetery to be built and maintained by the efforts of the federal and state govern- ments. The location of the proposed cemetery is in North Marana near the Pinal County line on the west side of Interstate 10. It will be near the location of the future Luckett/Villages of Tortolita Interchange (South of Pinal Airpark Interchange exit). There are two other state operated veteran cemeteries in Arizona. One is located in the Phoenix region and the other is near Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista. Land is being donated by the Kai Family to help launch the project. Funds to de- sign and construct the cemetery will be 100% the responsibility of the federal and state government (funding is already available to begin the project). A start date for the project has not been set yet, pending the identification of fund- ing to complete a road to the cemetery site. The Town is helping to facilitate meetings for all the various partners involved in the project (Veterans Administration, ADOT, Governor’s Office, Legislature, and pri- vate individuals/families). One of the challenges will be the extension of Luckett Road, which currently is a dirt road serving farm fields. There may be an oppor- tunity for the state to allocate funding to help solve this infrastructure challenge. Attached are DRAFT proposed concepts of the project and the project site.
