Introduction
Introduction
The Council Executive Report is designed to give Councilmembers a briefing on
projects and events happening in the Town. The information in the report is
organized into sections based on the elements of the Town’s General Plan: Natural
Systems, Built Environment, People and Community, Resource Management, and
Land Management. Also identified throughout the plan are Strategic Plan focus ar-
easrelatedtoprojectsorprograms.

Project Status/Details:
Movie in the park:Happy Feet 2, September 15, at 7:00p.m. at Gladden Farms

Music In Marana:Easton Corbin in Concert September 22 at the Marana Health
Center. Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased at Boot Barn and The Quarry at
Bedrocks. VIP tickets are available for purchase through Mary Carter at

Project Name: Marana Citizens Forum
Project Status/Details:
The next session of the Marana Citizens Forum will begin on September 6
The topic for the forum will be “Managing our local resources”
Forum meetings will be held September 6, September 27, and October 18
Project Name: Neighborhood Meetings
Project Status/Details:
The Town is facilitating meetings with neighborhood groups throughout the com-
munity to work on specific topics of concern, share information, and network.
Community Development and Neighborhood Development staff support these
efforts by coordinating these meetings and supporting other departments as they
engage the public.
These initiatives are part of an overall strategy of community engagement that
utilizes multi-disciplinary teams to provide outreach and education using a collab-
orativeprocessthatworkstoeliminateduplicationofeffortsandprovideseasy
access for the community.
Continental Ranch Neighborhood (September 13, 2012); Gladden Farms HOA
(November 1, 2012); Tangerine Crossing HOA (October 30, 2012); Heritage
Highlands HOA Board (September 6, 2012); Honea Heights Neighborhood
(September 27, 2012); Adonis Neighborhood (September 19, 2012).
Councilmembers are encouraged to attend, be introduced, and engage with citi-
zens.

People and Community
Project Name: Mobile Town Hall
Project Status/Details:
On October 13, 2012 from 1:00p.m.-6:00p.m. Mobile Town Hall will go Out &
About to visit four pre-scheduled Block Parties over a 6 hour period.
These Block Parties will be clustered in the Continental Ranch area.Participants
will be provided with rotating presentations from the Police Department and oth-
er areas of interest.
Mayor and Council, Managers and Departments will rotate through and interact
with participants at each location for one hour. Special programs and projects will
also have an opportunity to present.
Project Name:Neighborhood Clean Up Day
Project Status/Details:
Each year the Town facilitates neighborhood cleanup days throughout the com-
munity.This year’s first event will be November 3.
These events bring together volunteers from across the region to assist with pro-
jects to beautify the community and improve the lives of residents.
The Town is partnering with local residents, non-profit and faith-based organiza-
tions to organize three area-specific events.
The first work day will concentrate in the Adonis and Honea Heights neighbor-
hoods. Additional volunteer days will be scheduled for early spring and tackle
individual projects in neighborhoods and commercial areas.

Resource Management
Project name: Airport Manager
Project Status/Details:
Steve Miller has landed as the manager of the Marana
Regional Airport. His first day was Aug. 20.
Miller has extensive knowledge of the aviation industry,
including airport management, marketing, business de-
velopment, operations and maintenance. He worked as
the director of business development for the Tucson
Airport Authority from 2008-’10 and was airport man-
ager in Lebanon, N.H. from 2005-’07.
Miller also worked for Delta Airlines in Dallas and the
Columbia (S.C.) Metropolitan Airport.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in aviation management
from Southern Illinois University and has a commercial
pilot’s license.
Project name: Emergency Preparedness Workshops
Project Status/Details:
September is Emergency Preparedness Month. In furtherance, the Town is hosting
free workshops for employees on many emergency preparedness topics.
Attached is a flyer with information on all of the workshops being offered for
Emergency Preparedness Month.

Project name: Del Webb-Preliminary Plat
Project Status/Details:
This is a Pulte Homes development that is located on the south side of Dove
Mountain Blvd, west of the Dove Mountain Blvd/Secret Springs Dr traffic circle
The project consists of 163 lots on 46.5 acres
The average lot size is 7,320 sq ft
The first submittal has been reviewed, currently waiting for second submittal
Anticipated to be Phase 1 of a multi-phase project

Project name: Marana Towne Center Specific Plan
Project Status/Details:
Carl Winters & Associates, on behalf of the property owners, requests to rezone
approximately 462 acres of land from ‘A’ (Small Lot Zone) to ‘F’ (Specific Plan) for
the purpose of establishing the Marana Towne Center Specific Plan, a master-
planned area that will allow a variety of commercial, office, light industrial and resi-
dential uses.
The property is generally located west of Sandario Road between Grier Road and
Marana Road.
The Marana Towne Center Specific Plan site has been divided into three distinct
planning areas with a maximum of 2,200 residential units of varying types and siz-
es. The three areas are: the Downtown Zone, the Employment Center/Town Lake
Zone, and the Cultural/Mixed Use Zone.
The goal of Marana Towne Center is to be the center of the community with the
traditional features of a downtown center such as a town square and community
facilities and a place for small entertainment venues, holiday celebrations and festi-
vals.
The Planning Commission heard this item at their August 29 meeting and voted 5-0
to recommend approval.
