After a national search that began in late June, the Town has
hired Tucson native Ryan Mahoney as its planning director.
Mahoney starts work Oct. 14. Mahoney, currently the town
manager of Dolores, Colorado, brings significant planning
experience from the municipal government and private sectors.
He holds a bachelors' degree in interdisciplinary studies and a
masters in land use planning from the University of Arizona.
"The Town is pleased to welcome someone with Ryan's experience and knowledge to
the team," Town Manager Gilbert Davidson said. "His expertise will be critical as we move
forward on several key projects, including the development of our downtown."
The five finalists for the position met with members of the Town Council, Planning and Zoning
Commission and Town employees during the interview process last month. They gave
presentations regarding their vision and conceptual ideas for the new downtown, answered
employee questions, toured the community and interviewed in front of a panel of Town
management and outside experts.

The Marana Police Department is currently holding their third Citizen Police Academy
and have 19 people enrolled. The Citizens Police Academy is open to anyone at least 18
years old (or enrolled as a junior or senior at Marana High School), passes a background
investigation, including a criminal history check, and lives or works in Marana. The 10-week
program gives participants the opportunity to learn more about the police department's
crime scene, K-9 and patrol units and an introduction of command staff.
The fall issue of About Town, our quarterly e-newsletter, is focusing on hiking the Tortolita
Mountains. The issue contains stories about the Town's leadership role in establishing and
maintaining the trails, our free guided hike program, a little about the history and the
wildlife and plants found in the mountains.
We have recruited community members to serve as models in a photo shoot we're doing
to promote hiking clothing and gear that can be found at the Sportsman's Warehouse
store in Marana.
The issue will be sent electronically and posted on our website and social media outlets
next month. To sign up for electronic delivery, please visit www.marana.corr
