HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/07/2006 Blue Sheet Hazard Mitigation Plan Approval TOWN COUNCIL MEETING INFORMATION TOWN OF MARANA MEETING DATE: November 7, 2006 AGENDA ITEM: I. 8 TO: FROM: SUBJECT: MAYOR AND COUNCIL Steve Johnson, Marana Police Department Resolution No. 2006-174: Relating to Emergency Management; approving and authorizing the draft Pima County Multi- Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan DISCUSSION At the October 10, 2006, study session, staff reviewed with Council the draft Pima County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan and an Executive Summary of the Plan, specifically focusing on those components related to Marana and its responsibilities under the Plan. Staff was directed to bring forward the Plan for further consideration at tonight's meeting. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends Council adoption of the draft Pima County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Miti- gation Plan. SUGGESTED MOTION I move to approve Resolution No. 2006-174, the draft Pima County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. {00002691.DOC /} SJ/JCB/ll/l/2006 MARANA RESOLUTION NO. 2006-174 RELATING EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT; APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE DRAFT PIMA COUNTY MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN. WHEREAS, the Town of Marana has historically experienced severe damage from natural and human-caused hazards such as flooding, wildfire, thunderstorms/high winds, hazardous materials incidents and transportation accidents on many occasions resulting in loss of property and life, economic hardship and threats to public health and safety; and WHEREAS, the Town of Marana's Hazard Mitigation Plan (the Plan) has been developed after more than a year of research and work by the Town of Marana in association and cooperation with Pima County Multi-Jurisdictional Planning Team for the reduction of hazard risk to the community; and WHEREAS, the Plan specifically addresses hazard mitigation strategies and plan maintenance procedures for the Town of Marana; and WHEREAS, the Plan recommends several hazard mitigation actions/projects that will provide mitigation for specific natural and human caused hazards that impact the Town of Marana, with the effect of protecting people and property from loss associated with those hazards; and WHEREAS, a public meeting was held to present the Plan for comment and review as required by law. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Marana as follows: Section 1. The Plan is hereby adopted as an official plan of the Town of Marana; Section 2. The Plan shall be implemented, monitored and maintained by the officials/staff designated in the Plan for a period of five years with the full support of this resolution; Section 3. Future revisions and Plan maintenance actions required by the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 and FEMA are hereby adopted as a part of this resolution for a period of five years from the date of this resolution. An annual report on the progress of the implementation elements of the Plan shall be presented to the May and Council of the Town of Marana by October 3151 of each calendar year.
