TO: MAYOR AND COUNCIL FROM: Frank Cassidy, Town Attorney SUBJECT: Resolution No. 2006-178: Relating to Traffic; adopting the Town of Marana Speed Zone Map and Accompanying Table, establish- ing the reasonable and prudent maximum speed limits on specific roadways located within the Town limits of the Town of Marana. DISCUSSION This is a companion item to the proposed traffic ordinance on tonight's agenda. Revised Town Code Section 12-2-11, ("Speed Limits") provides for the adoption and periodic revision of a speed limit map and accompanying street segment table. This will make it easier for the Town to update and keep track of adopted speed limits within the Town limits. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends adoption of Resolution No. 2006-178, immediately after or concurrent with the adoption of the proposed traffic revisions on tonight's agenda (Ordinance No. 2006.31). SUGGESTED MOTION I move to adopt Resolution No. 2006-178. {00002896.DOC /} FJC/cds MARANA RESOLUTION NO. 2006-178 RELATING TO TRAFFIC; ADOPTING THE TOWN OF MARANA SPEED ZONE MAP AND ACCOMPANYING TABLE, ESTABLISHING THE REASONABLE AND PRUDENT MAXIMUM SPEED LIMITS ON SPECIFIC ROADWAYS LOCATED WITHIN THE TOWN LIMITS OF THE TOWN OF MARANA. WHEREAS the Town Council has determined that efficient administration requires the elimination of specific speed limits for roadways located within the Town from the Town Code; and WHEREAS speed limits may more appropriately be reported and updated from time to time by the adoption and amendment of an official speed zone map and accompanying table showing and describing the locations where particular reasonable and prudent maximum speed limits would occur; and WHEREAS the Town Council finds that the adoption, reporting, and amendment of speed limits as set forth in this resolution is in the best interests ofthe Town and its residents. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, as follows: SECTION 1. The Town of Marana Speed Zone Map and accompanying table, as set forth on Exhibit A and B, respectively, attached to and incorporated in this resolution by this reference, are hereby adopted. SECTION 2. Town staff is hereby directed to make the Town of Marana Speed Zone Map and accompanying table available to the public and accessible from the Town's internet web site. {00002874.DOC /} FJC/cds 10/31/06 SECTION 3. The Town Engineer is hereby authorized and directed to maintain and update the Town of Marana Speed Zone Map and accompanying table as necessary based on nationally-accepted traffic engineering standards.
