RELATING rro COMMUNITY DEV E LOPM ENT; APPROVING A, CONTRIBUTION OF $500 IN SUPPORT OF MARANA HIGH SCHOOL S.T.A.N.D. (STUDENTS AGAINST NARCOTICS AND DRINKING) CLUB'S PROM NIGHT `LOCK IN" WHEREAS the Town of Marana seeps to promote educational opportunities and improved project /initiative outcomes in the form of outreach to universities, colleges, and K--12 education; and WHEREAS the Town of Marana seeps to facilitate, with the support of the Marana Chamber of Commerce, internship opportunities at local businesses for students in K -12 and higher educational institutions; and WHEREAS the Town of Marana wishes to strengthen its relationship with universities, colleges, and K-12 education to ensure these initiatives; and WHEREAS Marana High S.T.A.N.D. Club's prom night "lock in" is one opportunity for the Town of Marana to support K-12 education by promoting a safe community for celebrating seniors in the form of a $500 contribution that will go toward sponsoring a supervised alcohol and drug-free celebration put on by Marana High School S.T.A.N.D. community partners; and WHEREAS statistics have shown that an increase in drinking and the use of drugs can occur following prone night, and this event has proven to be a successful way of providing new graduates with a safe, fun, and memorable celebration; and WHEREAS the Marana High School S.T.A.N.D. "lock in" is also an opportunity for the Town to distribute marketing materials to students on educational opportunities and events happening in the community; and WHEREAS the frown Council finds that approval of this resolution is in the best interests of the community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TH E MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, that a contribution of $500 in support of Marana High S.T.A.N.D. "loch in" is hereby approved. IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Manager and staff are hereby directed and authorized to undertake all other and further tasks required or beneficial to carry out the terms, obligations, conditions and objectives of this resolution.
