2017 Multi-Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation PlanBackground and Scope• Hazard mitigation planning is the process through which natural hazards that threaten communities are identified, likely impacts of those hazards are determined, mitigation goals are set, and appropriate strategies to lessen impacts are determined, prioritized, and implemented.
2017 Multi-Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan• Developing hazard mitigation plans enables state, tribal, and local governments to:Increase education and awareness around threats, hazards, and vulnerabilities.Build partnerships for risk reduction involving government, organizations, businesses, and the public.
2017 Multi-Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan• The federal government requires that a community have an approved hazard mitigation plan in order toqualify for federal funding programs. • This plan shall be reviewed, updated and proposed for adoption, every five years.
