HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/03/2007 Blue Sheet Cortaro Farms Road Public Art MEETING DATE: April 3, 2007 AGENDA ITEM: TOWN COUNCIL MEETING INFORMATION TOWN OF MARANA J.2 TO: MAYOR AND COUNCIL FROM: Gilbert Davidson, Deputy Town Manager, and Morris Reyna, Construction Division Manager AGENDA TITLE: Resolution No. 2007-54: Relating to Public Works; approving the design and construction of public art as a part of the Cortaro Farms Road, UPRR to Star Grass Drive Project, CIP Project 99- 076 DISCUSSION The intergovernmental agreement (IGA) dated August 16, 2004, executed between Pima County and the Town of Marana, for Project No. 99-076, Cortaro Farms Road, UPRR to Star Grass Drive, requires that one percent of construction costs must be allocated to public art per the bond requirements laid out in the Transportation Bond Improvement Plan dated November 4, 1997 special edition. The design proposed by artist Nina Borgia-Aberle of La Ceramica Fine Art Tile, is a tile mural, attached as Exhibit A. The proposed art will be located on the northwest comer of Joplin and Cortaro Farms Road, and is in compliance with the IGA. The artist will also be providing the construction of the art. ATTACHMENTS · Exhibit A - Drawing of the proposed mural. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends approval of the design and construction of the proposed mural. SUGGESTED MOTION I move to approve Resolution No. 2007-54. Cortaro Farms Road, UPRR to Star Grass Drive, CIP 99-076 MARANA RESOLUTION NO. 2007-54 RELATING TO PUBLIC WORKS; APPROVING THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF PUBLIC ART AS A PART OF THE CORTARO FARMS ROAD, UPRR TO STAR GRASS DRIVE PROJECT, CIP PROJECT 99-076. WHEREAS, the Town of Maran a entered into an intergovernmental agreement with Pima County dated August 16, 2004, for design and construction of improvements to Cortaro Road, and WHEREAS, the intergovernmental agreement requires one percent of the construction cost of Cortaro Farms Road to be allocated to public art; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council find that the approval of the public art as proposed by staff is in the best interests of the Town and its residents; and adheres to the intergovernmental agreement. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, that the design and construction of the public art, a depiction of which is attached to and incorporated by this reference in this resolution as Exhibit A, is hereby approved, and the Town's Manager and staff are hereby directed and authorized to undertake all other and further tasks required or beneficial to carry out this resolution.
