HomeMy WebLinkAboutCouncil Presentation - Strategic Plan Five Progress UpdateBUDGET PLANNING TOWN OF MARANA STRATEGIC PLAN FIVE PROGRESS UPDATE Q3, FY2023 May 16, 2023 Tonight’s Discussion 1.Strategic Plan Publish Dashboard 2.Overall progress of five focus areas 3.Next steps Recap and Reporting •Strategic Plan Five was approved in September 2022 for FY 2023 –FY 2025. •A total of 91 action items were identified and serve as the action plan for the goals and strategies. •Updates will be presented to Council on a quarterly basis. •This plan is a way to make sure Council’s priorities are in the forefront of our work plan. Public Dashboard Overview of Strategic Plan Progress 5 Focus Areas 18 Goals 91 Actions Cherished Heritage Leverage the region’s historic and cultural legacy to strengthen community character, increase community pride, and build heritage-driven tourism. Highlighted Accomplishments: •To increase awareness of the Town’s rich heritage,Staff created the URLwww.maranaAZ.gov/heritage,which is now live and accessible.Staff will continue to fine-tune and enhance the webpage. •The Town identified the new Marana Community Center and AquaticFacilityasalocationforpublicartthathighlightsMarana’s heritage.The Request for Proposal for public artwork was advertised on December 22,2022 and artist was selected in April 2023. Looking Forward: •Staff is working on finalizing the new Public Art Policy for Council approval. •In early FY 2024,the Town will recruit and hire a historian to lead efforts tobettershowcaseandpreserveMarana’s history and heritage. Vibrant Community Strengthen the sense of place and create opportunities for community connections. Highlighted Accomplishments: •The Marana-wide lifestyle brand series continues to go through the design and testing phase to include backpacks,gym bags,bucket hats,water bottles,notebooks,and stickers.Most of these items were showcased at the 2023 Founders’Day event. •Marana Police started the spring Citizens Police Academy on February1,2023.A total of 10 citizens are scheduled to graduate this month. •The Transportation Master Plan planning process continues.An onlinepublicsurveywasdevelopedandcirculatedwidelyforcommunity input.The survey closed with over 1,000 survey respondents. •Community and Neighborhood Services finalized the ConsolidatedActionPlanfortheCommunityBlockGrantProgram. Looking Forward: •Marana Police are working on achieving reaccreditation through theArizonaLawEnforcementProgramforthe4thyear.The Mock Assessment is scheduled for the first week of July 2023. Thriving Commerce Recruit and maintain a diverse commercial sector that is supported by local workforce training and funding opportunities. Highlighted Accomplishments: •Economic Development and Tourism Staff are currently undergoing theinitialphasestoupdatetheDiscoverMaranawebsite.The new website will provide a one-of-a-kind digital experience while showcasingeverythingMaranahastooffer. •Airport Staff has been working on efforts to educate the public about the Marana Airport.Staff hosted an airport booth during Founders’Day. •Airport Staff have established a working group to create an airport marketing plan.Meetings will follow to develop marketing strategies,goals,and steps to attract appropriate aviation companies. Looking Forward: •Tourism Master Plan will be kicking off in FY 2024. Healthy Lifestyles Provide a variety of recreational, artistic, and cultural opportunities along with a flourishing natural environment to support healthy and active lifestyles. Highlighted Accomplishments: •The Marana Community Center and Aquatic Facility is nearing the endofthedesignphase. •Progress continues on the Saguaro Bloom Community Park.Thedeveloper-funded project is being prepared to go out to bid in May2023. •Staff has been working with CalPortland to finalize the land acquisitiontocompletetheCalPortlandportionoftheSantaCruzRiverSharedUsePaththatwillconnectNorthMaranatotheentireSharedUsePath.ThisprojectisscheduledtogoouttobidbyendofMay2023. Looking Forward: •Continue planning meetings with the Community Center and AquaticFacilitydesignteamtoensureprojectcontinuesonschedule. •Design of the Tangerine Sky Park enhancements is currently in process.The current scope of the project includes a new splash pad andexpandedparkingtoaccommodatethenewamenity. Proactive Public Services Foster an open atmosphere that embraces change, creativity, innovation and calculated risk, and maintains the Town’s high quality customer service. Highlighted Accomplishments: •Annexation Policy was unanimously approved and adopted in January 2023.✔COMPLETED •An Employee Satisfaction Survey was launched and distributed to theentireorganizationonMarch1,2023.The purpose of the survey was to assist in getting a better understanding of employee satisfaction related to overall job satisfaction.✔COMPLETED •The final draft of the Drought Preparedness Plan is now complete.The final draft will be presented to Council for approval in May 2023. Looking Forward: •Facilities Master Plan Request for Proposal was released in late January2023.Anticipated date of plan completion is December 2023. Next Steps •Staff will continue working on the goals and actions associated with all five focus areas. •The next update is planned for August 2023. QUESTIONS?
