Highlighted Accomplishments: •Art Policy was presented to Council on June 20,2023.Council wassupportiveoffinaldraftandstaffhavebeenworkingonnextstepsforthe adoption of policy. •The Town identified the new Marana Community and Aquatic Center as alocationforpublicartthathighlightsMarana’s heritage.On June 7,2023, Council chose “Points in Time”as the approved design.This design willhonorthecommunity’s heritage and natural beauty by revealing scenesdepictingMarana’s history and culture. Looking Forward: •Staff will bring the final draft of the Art Policy for adoption in September with an effective date of October 1,2023. •The Historian position has been posted.Once hired,the Historian will leadeffortstobettershowcaseandpreserveMarana’s history and heritage. Vibrant Community Strengthen the sense of place and create opportunities for community connections. Highlighted Accomplishments: •The Marana Police has been tracking department activities,crime rates, and achievements.The annual report was recently completed and is available on the Town’s website.✔COMPLETED •The Community Development Block Grant consolidation action plan was presented and adopted by Town Council on May 2,2023.✔COMPLETED •The Transportation Master Plan planning process continues.The initial public involvement effort has been completed.Next steps includestakeholdermeetings,including a study session with Town Council. Looking Forward: •The Town is planning to collaborate with Pima County in a large-scale, County-wide housing study.Work is planned to begin in the third quarterofcalendaryear2023. •Town is back on track with the launch of a new town-wide website thatwillbetterservelocalgovernmentneedsandimproveresidentoutreach. Thriving Commerce Recruit and maintain a diverse commercial sector that is supported by local workforce training and funding opportunities. Highlighted Accomplishments: •Discover Marana partnered with the Marana Chamber of Commerce ontheDine&Discover Summer Challenge to encourage the community to support local during the slower summer months. •Discover Marana launched the Discovery Series to showcase the best ofMaranathroughartandstorytelling.The first theme celebrated the amazing hiking trails within our community.As part of this theme,DiscoverMaranacommissionedalocalartisttopaintamuralattheWildBurroTrail. Looking Forward: •The Tourism Master Plan RFQ was released and closed on July 27,2023.TheSolicitationReviewCommitteeiscurrentlyreviewingqualificationsandthe planning process will begin during the first quarter of FY 2024. •The main developer in the Downtown Marana area is currently masterplanningdowntown.The developer will be sharing their Conceptual Master Plan to the Town at the end of August 2023. Healthy Lifestyles Provide a variety of recreational, artistic, and cultural opportunities along with a flourishing natural environment to support healthy and active lifestyles. Highlighted Accomplishments: •Parks and Recreation held the first Sports User Group meeting.Leaders ofallcontractedyouthsportswereinvitedtodiscussissuesrelatedtotheirprograms.This meeting will be held twice a year. •Progress continues on the Saguaro Bloom Community Park.Proposals weredueJuly13,2023.The bids came in over budget.Staff will work with DRHortontodeterminenextstepsforthisproject.*DISRUPTION •Staff worked with CalPortland to finalize the land acquisition to completetheCalPortlandportionoftheSantaCruzRiverSharedUsePath.TheprojectwasadvertisedinlateMayandatotaloffiveproposalsweresubmitted.All five proposals were over budget.Staff will meet to discussnextstepsforthisproject.*DISRUPTION Looking Forward: •Continue planning meetings with the Community and Aquatic Centerdesignteamtoensureprojectcontinuesonschedule.The contractoranticipatesgoingverticalthisfall. Proactive Public Services Foster an open atmosphere that embraces change, creativity, innovation and calculated risk, and maintains the Town’s high quality customer service. Highlighted Accomplishments: •Town Council adopted the Drought Preparedness Plan on May 16,2023.✔COMPLETED •The Community and Aquatic Center is nearing 100%plans and the teamhasincorporatedsustainablepracticesinthedesignwhereapplicable.✔COMPLETED •The Facilities Master Plan’s (FMP)kick-off meeting was held on July 19,2023.Completion of FMP is anticipated for early calendar year 2024. •The Water Division received the AZ Water Small Water Treatment Plant of 2023 and the Wastewater Division received the AZ Water SmallConveyanceSystemof2023. Looking Forward: •Water Department submitted a grant application outlining planned waterconservationprogramandcostsof$250,000 to the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority (WIFA).Grant is currently pending review. Next Steps •Staff will continue working on the goals and actions associated with all five focus areas. •The next update is planned for October 2023. QUESTIONS?
