HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2007-138 funding support for the mountain view high school teen court mock trial programMARANA RESOLUTION NO. 2007-138 RELATING TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: GRANTING DISCRETIONARY FUNDING IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 TO THE MOUNTAIN VIEW HIGH SCHOOL TEEN COURT, A STUDENT-RUN GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATION, TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR MOCK TRIAL PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the Town of Marana has established a discretionary fund to support local non-profit and grassroots organizations forwarding the priorities set by Mayor and Council; and WHEREAS, Mayor and Council recognize the need to promote programs that encourage positive activities for Marana youth and families; and WHEREAS, the Mountain View High School Mock Trial/Teen Court Club, a grassroots organization, has been working with the Marana Municipal Court and legal professionals in the Marana area to develop a Teen Court in cooperation with the Marana Unified School District's Career Gateway into Law and Human Services initiative; and WHEREAS, Mountain View High School Mock Trial/Teen Court Club is working to provide a positive activity for high school-aged youth and use positive peer pressure to change the behavior of at-risk students. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, that a grant to the Mock Trial/Teen Court Club in the amount of $5,000 from the discretionary fund shall be awarded to provide a positive activity for Marana youth through the development of a Teen Court. PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, this 7'h day of August, 2007. Mayor Ed Honea
