RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ARIZONA SUPERCONDUCTING SUPER COLLIDER
PROJECT WHICH WILL ENSURE THE CONTIRu~D r.~.ADERSHIP OF T~U~ UNITED
STATES IN HIGH ENERG~ PHYSICS, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY.
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Energy (DOE), with
the approval of the President, announced plans to build the
Superconducting Super Collider (SSC); and
WHEREAS,
circumference),
and
the SSC will be the largest (53 mile
most powerful particle accelerator in the world;
WHEREAS, the Arizona Site is one of the leading contenders
for location of the SSC; and
WHEREAS, the University of Arizona's Physics Department is
significantly involved in experimental physics research; and
WHEREAS, interaction between the University of Arizona,
Arizona State University and SSC scientists would be of benefit
to the project and have significant impact upon the higher
education community in the State; and
WHEREAS, the Maricopa Site in Arizona would bring
international recognition to the State, improve the high-tech
business climate, create thousands of new jobs and generate
millions of dollars in increased personal income;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Marana Town Council
does hereby support the Arizona Superconducting Super Collider
Project and urges our Congressional delegation to pledge their
bipartisan support to convince the Federal government to select
the Maricopa Site in Arizona.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Marana Town Council of the Town of
Marana, Arizona this 6th day of September, 1988.
