HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 89-003 adoption and implementation of regional water conservationRESOLUTION NO. 89-3 RELATING TO REGIONAL WATER CONSERVATION WHEREAS, water is a precious and vital resource which is currently being used in the Tucson Active Management Area two and one half times faster than it is naturally replaced; and WHEREAS, water conservation is an integral part of any long term water supply management program; and WHEREAS, residents of the various Pima Association of Governments (PAG) jurisdictions have demonstrated their commitment to water conservation by achieving the lowest per capita water use rate of any major metropolitan area in Arizona; and WHEREAS, all of the municipal and industrial water users in Pima County, including customers in each of the PAG jurisdictions rely on water supplied from the same sole-source aquifer; and WHEREAS, the various PAG jurisdictions should maintain their leadership in water conservation, and water quality protection, in order to meet Arizona Department of Water Resources mandated target use rates and to participate in the regional goal of achieving safe yield; and W~w. REAS, the City of Tucson has recently adopted "Make Every Drop Count--A Community Conservation Plan" which provides conservation goals by adopting ordinances including plumbing and landscaping provisions and implementing public information and awareness programs; and WHEREAS, implementation of conservation programs require the cooperation of each PAG jurisdiction to assure continued reliable short and long term supplies of high quality, reasonably priced water; and WHEREAS, it is imperative that all available water sources, including groundwater, surface water, and treated effluent, be used wisely. NOW, T-w. REFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Marana, Arizona, 1. That the Town of Marana may consider the adoption of uniform water conservation measures. 2. That the Town of Marana may consider the implementation of public information and awareness programs aimed at increasing water conservation. 2.' That all methods of water conservation, including the appropriate use of treated effluent, be investigated. 3. The Executive Secretary of the PAG Regional Council is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the governing body of each PAG jurisdiction.
