A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OFMARANA,
ARIZONA ENDORSING THE UTILIZATION OF AVRA VALLEY FArM LAND
BY THE TOHONO O'0DHAMNATION
WHEREAS the City of Tucson currently owns substantial
land in the Avra Valley, which land consists of retired farmland;
and
WHEREAS the Tohono O'Odham Nation is reviewing
alternative locations for the location of additional farmland;
and
WHEREAS the Town Council has determined that the
utilization of City of Tucson retired farmland in the Avra Valley
by the Tohono O'Odham Nation for a farm could be beneficial to
the Tohono O'Odham Nation, Avra Valley and the Town of Marana.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council
of the Town of Marana that the Bureau of Reclamation is urged to
assist the Tohono O'Odham Nation in utilizing retired farmland in
the Avra Valley owned by the City of Tucson for the San Xavier
New Farm.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution is
conditioned uDon all irrigation in the Avra Valley by the Tohono
O'0dham Nation being accomplished via the use of its CAP
allocations, and not pumped from the aquifer.
PASSED AND ADOPTED b~ the Mayor and Council of the Town
of Marana, Arizona this 16th day of May, 1989.
