A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OFMAR~_NA,
ARIZONA DESIGNATING "PLANT-A-TREE DAY"
WHEREAS the Marana Town Council has acknowledged that
the "greenhouse effect" and the resultant depletion of the ozone
layer does have severe consequences to the environment; and
WHEREAS it has been determined that trees operate as a
natural recycler of the atmosphere by ingesting and breaking down
various toxic materials in the atmosphere;
WHEREAS a single forest tree
carbon dioxide per year; and
and
absorbs 26 pounds of
WHEREAS if sufficient trees were planted throughout the
world, this could result in a reversal of the greenhouse effect
and a cleansing of the atmosphere by absorbing particulates.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council
that the first Saturday in November of each year be designated as
"Plant-a-Tree Day" in Marana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all residents and property
owners in the Town of Marana are urged to plant one or more trees
on their property each and every year on Plant-a-Tree Day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, for the benefit of the '
public health, residents and property owners are urged to plant
non pollen-producing trees.
WHEREAS, the immediate operation of this Resolution is
necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and
safety of the Town of Marana, Arizona, an emergency is hereby
declared to exist, and this Resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its Dassage and adoption.
PASSED ~ ADOPTED by the Mayor and Council of the Town
of Marana, Arizona this 17th day of October, 1989.
