A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA,
ARIZONA TO COOPERATE WITH UTILITY COMPANIES IN SUPPORT
OF THE 1990 CENSUS
WHEREAS, The decennial Census is the means this nation
utilizes to determine the population of states and localities;
WHEREAS, More than fifty federal programs utilize Census
data for allocation of federal funds;
WHEREAS, The decennial Census is the basis for reapportion-
ment of federal, state and local offices;
WHEREAS, Democratic institutions rely on the civic partici-
pation of all individuals;
WHEREAS, In 1980 the Census Bureau missed 1 percent of the
general population and 5.9 percent of the Hispanic and Black
populations;
WHEREAS, Many residents failed to complete the Census
questionnaire for fear that their residency would be disclosed;
WHEREAS, The Census Bureau is relying on the cooperation
of state and local governments to assist in the promotion of the
1990 Census;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Town of Mararia
recognize the importance of a full count of all its residents for
the benefit of the entire community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Town of Marana,
in cooperation with representatives of utility companies, stress
the importance, confidentiality and need to complete the Census
questionnaire.
