HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 92-025 compliance with the americans with disability act of 1990 and appointing a ADA coordinatorRESOLUTION NO. 92-25 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, DECLARINO ITS INTENT TO COMPLY WITH THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT OF 1990 [ADA] AND APPOINTING AN ADA COORDINATOR FOR THE TOWN OF MA~ANA; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY WHEREAS, the Title 42, United States Code, Section 12101, et seq., popularly known as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 [ADA], became effective January 26, 1992, with regard to the Town of Marana; and WHEREAS, the Act establishes comprehensive civil rights protection for persons with disabilities in the areas of employment, public accommodations, state and local government programs and telecommunications and prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability; and WHEREAS, the Town of Marana endeavors to make all of its programs, services, facilities and employment opportunities available to, accessible for and usable by qualified individuals with disabilities; NOW, THEREFORE, HE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Marana, Arizona as follows: Section 1. That the Town of Marana, as evidence of its good faith and intent to comply with basic policies and procedures necessary for effective, uniform and judicious compliance with the ADA, will compile a "transition plan" identifying town facilities that require structural modification and an action plan for making these modifications to ensure accessibility by January 26, 1995, and, during 1992, the Town of Marana will conduct a "self- evaluation" of all areas of town employment, programs, services, and facilities, with the help of disabled groups and interested persons and will develop an action plan for modifications that may be required; Section 2. That to assist the Town in meeting its compliance responsibilities under the Act, to name Vick Charhis, Town of Marana Building Official, as the Town's ADA Coordinator pursuant to the Act. WHEREAS, it is necessary for the preservation of the peace, health and safety of the Town of Marana that this resolution become immediately effective, an emergency is hereby declared to exist, and this resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage and adoption.
