A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA,
ARIZONA, URGING PIMA COUNTY AND THE CITY OF TUCSON TO ENTER INTO
NECESSARY AGREEMENTS TO BRING ABOUT A SPEEDY RESOLUTION TO THE
ISSUE OF A REGIONAL LANDFILL.
WHEREAS, the Town of Nlarana has within its corporate boundaries two landfills,
providing for the disposal and storage of various waste products; and
WHEREAS, the landfill located on Tangerine Road in Mararia, Arizona, is nearing
capacity, and when this landfill is filled to capacity, the need for additional landfills will reach
a critical point; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Mararia has expressed its desire that the use of the landfills
within its boundaries be limited and not enl,'u-ged or increased, as those landfills are now in areas
where the land use activity taking place around the landfills are largely commercial and
residential; and
WHEREAS, the need Ibr cooperation and vision has risen to the forefront of this issue,
and fast action is necessary now, more than ever.
BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Marana, Arizona that they
urge the City of Tucson Council and the Pima County Board of Supervisors work together, with
cooperation and haste, to bring the issue of a regional landfill to a speedy resolution. Certainly these
two bodies, as well as the governing boards of the surrounding communities can work together, with
a vision toward the future, to resolve the difficj. dt issue of the Iocation and particulars of a regional
landfill, in order to provide this most needed service to all our constituents.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Mamna, Arizona,
this 2nd day of August, 1994.
