HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 95-051 support for a surface storage reservoir (lake) with recreational elements for the tucson aqueductRESOLUTION NO. 95-51 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, ARIZONA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF THE PREFERRED PLAN FOR A SURFACE STORAGE RF. qERVOIR (LAKE) WITH RECREATIONAL ELEMENTS AS SPECIFIED IN THE DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR THE TUCSON AQUEDUCT. WHEREAS, the Federal Bureau of Reclamation (~the Bureau") has studied alternatives for providing a reliable supply of Central Arizona Project water to Tucson, Arizona, ("the Project"); and WHEREAS, the Bureau is soliciting public input regarding the Draft Environmental Impact Statement ("the Draft EIS") for the Project; and WHEREAS, the Town of Marana does not support the Unites States Fish and Wildlife Service's ("Fish and Wildlife") proposed ban of recreational elements of the Project; and WHEREAS, the Town of Marana, Arizona believes that it is in Pima County's best interest to enter into a Cooperative Agreement with the Bureau to develop the recreational elements of the surface storage reservoir component of the Project. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Marana, Arizona as follows: SECTION 1. The Town of Marana urges that the Bureau resolve cacti issues with Fish and Wildlife to the release of the final Environmental Impact Statement; SECTION 2. The Town of Marana asks that the Bureau pursue a Cooperative Agreement with Pima County and/or its designee to develop recreational facilities for the surface storage reservoir component of the Project; SECTION 3. Time is of the essence and the Bureau should keep the Project on schedule in 1995 by strictly adhering to all Project deadlines.
